civil rights progress in the 60s, such as it was, was a wake up call for a large part of the US that their aim to finally win the civil war wasn't working. 70s politics tested the waters and used things like vietnam and communism as a litmus test of that generation's "woke". by the reagan era, they had a plan. they've been executing on it ever since and mostly it's been unimpeded by the "left" or "liberals" because it forced them to confront the truths of US history since inception. if those of us not willing to be part of a fascist dictatorship aren't ready to confront that full and unvarnished history and examine past failures, we're going to lose.

The Democrats quite notably gave up on working class people universally thanks to Bill Clinton.
The truly leftist point of view focuses on economic and political solidarity of the rank and file of society.

but collective action needs focus and coordination and the fewer schelling points the more effectiveness is possible.
So the more targeted a d specific an agreed upon problem is characertized, the easier it gets to also converge on the best path of action.
everyone already knows the rich control the means of production, but its not very helpful in understanding root causes that can be targeted by collective action imho
