To be clear, I don't think that the NYT has ever been a leftist paper. They really said "Michael Brown, due to be buried on Monday, was no angel." about an unarmed child killed by police. They ran Trump's full page ad on the Central Park Five. It's always been like this.

Analyzing the mechanisms that enable the control makes change actionable though.

"a company/boss has the power to control workers"

...and its multifacetted what that means in practice, but you can also rephrase that into pointing out the single dominant underlying enabeling mechanic instead:

"a company/boss can stop paying people"

...agreeing on the latter allows aligning actions

To give a small hint about this why it’s so important consider that unions in the 1930s were racist assholes until they learned that they had to include people of color/women and that solidarity that kind of inclusion that kind of equality dismantled a great deal of racism.

Corporations love DEI because nobody questions the hideous exploitation they inflict on all of us on workers and consumers. They’re happy hiring women and blacks into structure of exploitation.

I have two completely separate attitudes towards DEI, one regarding the blood and soil racist hate that denounces it and on the other side of this, the fact that DEI allows white liberal “left” to ignore economic issues. The Democrats quite notably gave up on working class people universally thanks to Bill Clinton.

The truly leftist point of view focuses on economic and political solidarity of the rank and file of society.
