    @cstross I think you underestimate the opportunities for improvement. It should drift, possibly by a random amount that differs for each user, so as to require periodic resetting. This would obviously be accomplished by the rotation of a knob that moves the hands. Since the mode for using that knob disengages the drive mechanism from the hands, it should directly move them in a strictly mechanical and purely circular fashion.

    @ddgulledge @cstross

    It also should have a Vetinari Variable Tick cadence, just for some pure audio flair.

      Obviously this clock can only be improved by the addition of a language setting. And maybe timezones.

            @cstross I suspect this is legal grounds for justified manslaughter.

            Or maybe even straight up murder.

              @ascii158 @cstross Could. I was thinking multiple clocks executing in synchrony would be more distressing, but both are worth trying.

                @jmax @ascii158 Also, if it's multiple dials for different time zones, they need to be ordered alphabetically too!

                                        @cstross I was about to intermesh my fingers and do my best evil villain laugh after thinking that one of the cursed language settings should be “Roman numerals”… except that rather annoyingly, those are nearly already alphabetized, boo. Only IX is out of place.

                                          @themself @ascii158 @cstross Upon further thought:

                                          Each timezone setting can be expressed in several ways. e.g. I live on the east coast of the USA, and my local timezone is EST, or EDT, or New York... (I haven't checked for the complete list.)

                                          So: Multiple faces. Each face picks a random name for its timezone, and the faces are sorted by that.

                                          Then, every minute, everybody picks a new name for their timezone, and the faces re-sort.
