@MariahL @techsinger @vol4life8657 @Kingslayer I don't know if its just me but I feel emotionally connected to my cane like, if it brakes and I'm in public, I genuinely panick.

@NicksWorld @techsinger @vol4life8657 @Kingslayer I mean it's your mobility aid, same as someone's wheelchair or someone's dog. If something happens of course you'd panic. that's normal.

@techsinger @MariahL @Kingslayer What part of the stigma is justified?

@NicksWorld @MariahL @Kingslayer People find us inconvenient since we often make more work for them. They find us depressing because of their own view that blindness is worse than death, at least those of them who hold that view. We need accessible formats rather than just being able to throw a paper out there and have done with it. Our dogs and canes sometimes hit things... You get the idea.

@NicksWorld @techsinger @vol4life8657 @Kingslayer I find it freeing to be able to move through spaces that a cane would hinder me in. Crowds are a big one. The way my dog handled crowds and various obsticles was insanely liberating. When I was training with him we walked through Central Park in New York, that was an experience I'll never forget. Talk about crowds and obsticles and just things to test us.

@techsinger @MariahL @NicksWorld @Kingslayer But everything has a cost, whether time or currency. Nothing is ever free, and for each day you only have 86800 seconds.

@vol4life8657 @MariahL @NicksWorld @Kingslayer Oh undoubtedly. I was just thinking of the dollars and cents, not the time and effort. As I said, keeping everything in mind, I think it washes out or that the dog is just a bit more costly, in the most expansive use of the word, than a cane.

@techsinger @vol4life8657 @NicksWorld @Kingslayer Think of it this way, though. Some people enjoy that sort of structure and companionship. The cane is a stick. It doesn't show you love and affection it just sits there.

@NicksWorld @techsinger @Kingslayer We saw buskers, tourists, New Yorkers just doing their thing. Other dogs, even the Central Park carriages and horses.

@NicksWorld @MariahL @vol4life8657 @Kingslayer If my computer or hearing aids go down in public I get annoyed, too, though it's not panick. It's just a tool failing, I don't like my tools breaking. I suppose that could be emotion, but it isn't for me, it's just a feeling that I want the tool back. I couldn't keep that emotional distance from a dog, I think.

@techsinger @NicksWorld @vol4life8657 @Kingslayer I mean, I don't think it's wrong to be emotionally attached to something that gives you independence. It's scary if something breaks or if something happens to your dog.

He was okay, just some swelling around his face but he didn't feel his greatest for 2 days or so. and yes, while it's different, it's disorienting if say your cane breaks. What do you do then. So no I don't think it's weird to panic.

@NicksWorld @MariahL @Kingslayer umm, people don't like being inconvenienced? People don't like extra work, extra fears, all that? They are justified to feel that way, aren't they? Nobody wants to work more than the minimum. That's a justified feeling isn't it? It may well be wrong to feel it, but it's human nature. We bring them extra work. They don't like extra work. The suspicion that we bring them extra work is in fact, true which accounts for the stigma.
