@ami_angelwings Still catching up. For B, I go with Legion of Super-Heroes character Bouncing Boy. A joke power that he always finds a way to make useful. He does not have a hero body, which is part of his appeal. He is always cheerful but can be serious when necessary. And he was the first Legion member to get married (and that marriage has stuck for the last 50 years). When the Legion finally got its own cartoon series, he became the leader because he was the one who paid attention and co-ordinating everyone when no one else would do it. He is one of the reasons that I love the Legion.

Similar to the rules on "C", Detective/Doctor/etc don't count unless that's a proper name & not a title. (i.e. Detective Chimp & The Doctor count, Detective Lennie Briscoe & Dr. House do not)
Add the hashtag #FavCharacterD to it so there's sub-sorting as well.

@ami_angelwings Dirk Gently comes to mind.
I'm probably missing someone, D is a long list of possiblilities. -
@Z_Zed_Zed she would count under S since her last name is C, but it's still a good pick, however it might free you up to pick a different C if you want!
-
@ami_angelwings Darth is a title, so I’d go with Drizzt Do'Urden. Double D even:)
From the forgotten realms books, he’s a drow which is supposed to be on the evil side of things. I especially like the books of him growing up in an underground city of darkness, how he has to navigate that, and how he is not evil.
I believe them made some games, but I never felt it would make sense to have any visual media for a book series (that trilogy) that is mostly in the dark. It’s one of those things that can’t be filmed without ruining the point.
@yon @ami_angelwings “…and the dual-scimitar dark elf character builds did explode from that day forward, I tell you.”

@ami_angelwings does the dean from Community count? His name is technically Craig but everyone (including himself) calls him just "Dean" like 99% of the time
-
For D I will have to go with Don Wei from Oban Star-Racers. He's the father of the protagonist, Eva, and to say their relationship is strained would be a massive understatement. Usually I dislike stories about making amends with shitty parents because they tend to excuse treating children terribly... but Oban Star-Racers is actually great and seeing their relationship develop is super satisfying.
Basically, Eva's mother (Don's wife) died and Don was so depressed that he couldn't take care of Eva anymore and sent her off to boarding school. He never even called her on the phone or anything. Years later, Eva gets tired of this so she runs away from school and tries to meet him, but when she does, he doesn't recognize her because it's been so long. She feels intimidated so she makes up a fake identity and becomes a member of his racing team. They butt heads all the time because Don is kind of a jerk and also completely clueless he's interacting with his long lost daughter. I won't spoil how it ends, but it's really good! One of my favorite cartoons.

@lalah @ami_angelwings holy shit I completely forgot about Oban
I had such a crush on the protagonist as a kid lmao

@hazelnot no, because Dean is his title, his name is Craig even if others on the show call him Dean most of the time

@hazelnot similarly Captain Picard is rarely referred to by his first name, but still counts as J and not C

D is Diane Nguyen from Bojack Horseman. Voice-actor casting aside (she does an amazing job regardless), I've never felt more seen as a mixed race second generation immigrant. Her stubborn sense of justice, even to the detriment of her relationships, resonates hugely with me too. And the depressive episodes...well, fuck.

@ami_angelwings I replied to this the other day but I'm going through to stay caught up and I'm amending my #FavCharacterB to Beat from UNBEATABLE. There's something about a character that gets dropped in an unfamiliar circumstance and gets told "the things you love don't matter" and pushing back violently against that external pressure by making art and finding purpose that I find extremely compelling. She's just an extremely well realized character and I love the way she's portrayed a lot.

@ami_angelwings My #FavCharacterD is Deku from MHA. There's something about a vulnerable boy that grows through his fear and inability into someone deeply capable and strong that never forgets what it feels like to feel sad and alone, and reaches out to everyone that I find really compelling.
So many other characters like him are Good
for little stated reason, but Deku really explores that archetype in a way I find it hard to not be moved by. -

I was REALLY considering going off the board for my #FavCharacterE & saying Elizabeth Shelby from Star Trek: TNG's Best of Both Worlds even though she only showed up in 2 episodes (& technically never had a canonical first name until ST: Picard) & then Peter David turned her into his Gary Stu's waifu which sucked.
But I think I'll go with my planned pick even if it's chalk (the obvious/frontrunner choice, for those that don't know what "chalk" means).
Éowyn from The Lord of the Rings. She really only has that one big moment, but what a moment.
"But no living man am I! You are looking upon a woman. Eowyn am I, Eomund's daughter. You stand between me and my lord and kin. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him."

@ami_angelwings my #FavCharacterE is Emil from the Nier series, he's just such a tragic character but I don't think that tragic-ness DEFINES him so much as it informs him? He's just a lost boy thrust into a world that never cared for him, and he finds so much purpose surrounding himself with people that see him for who he is and there's a sincerity to that that's really powerful. Not to mention that he's queer character that has to reckon with an unrequited attraction that adds onto the fact that it feels like the world was never on his side, but even with nothing going his way he still fights and pushes on because he has his little family.
I dunno, I think that's beautiful

@ami_angelwings Delenn from Babylon 5, who I've found extremely relatable for a whole bunch of complicated and very personal reasons that are difficult to explain. But also, she kicks ass and that's easy to explain
Also I just saw on her Wikipedia page that they were originally considering making the character a trans woman?!

This both explains why she's so damn relatable and yet also feels like a missed opportunity

@ami_angelwings I only watched one season and decided the show was perfect the way it is and leave it like that: Emma from Promised Neverland is a combination of believable conscientious hard-worker who earned her goal, but also she defies a lot of the stereotypes of how a "genius" presents themselves. And I love that.

@ami_angelwings Eowyn just saying "I am no man!" in the movie does a huge injustice to how stone cold badass she was in this moment.
"No living man may hinder me!"
"And your point is? That is my family you're fucking with and I WILL cut you."

@ami_angelwings Eilonwy, from "The Chronicles of Prydain", by Lloyd Alexander, because she is a princess, an enchantress, and she has the most lovely way of speaking. She is brave (she is the one who in fact rescues Taran of Caer Dallben, not the other way around) and adventurous.
Also, Elspeth, from "The Heralds of Valdemar" series by Mercedes Lackey, because she is a princess, a mage, and she is brave and adventurous (this might be a pattern).
