Gamelon from The Far Kingdoms (The Anteros) series by Allan Cole and Chris Bunch.
He's a wizard (and a head of the wizard's guild on the city-state where the protagonists are) - typical old wise whitebeard man who joined a hero's journey regardless his age, lost in the battle his vision and thus magic abilities (mostly), but still didn't lose his desire to help with what he could do anyway, to share his wisdom and wit.
I adopted that character's name as my username, though from a translation and with some modification, about 25 years ago.

From what little I know, they're effectively a future AI as well as being the time ship in "Legends of Tomorrow". Maybe someone else on can clue me in more, or has a different temporal "G" suggestion.

I’ve seen about two thirds of Star Trek TOS, but the only episode I actually liked was “Assignment: Earth”, intended as a pilot for a new series. Gary Seven is a 20th-century human working for advanced aliens who encounters the crew of the Enterprise who have travelled back to 1968. Kirk et al mistakenly believe he’s trying to alter history and his exasperation at these damn kids who almost manage to destroy their own future is quite relatable.

Goliath. As much as Gargoyles had the unfortunate tendency to kinda just be The Goliath Show a lot of the time, he's a fantastic embodiment of the show's thesis and Greg Weisman's writing in general. Goliath lives in a world that constantly insists he's a monster and he refuses to allow it to make him into one. If anything all the ways he's flawed are entirely human.

The true tragic hero of the tale. Not only does he keep the ring away from Sauron (Morgoth’s little errand boy) and take one for the team in a giant way.

He also follows the tricksy weak hobbits and in a tragic turn of events in his desperation to retrieve the ring, when Frodo is failing at the task at hand mind you, he saves everyone but plummeting to his death in mount doom.

Everyone hated him, yet he saved them all in the end. The fellowship didn’t, Sméagol did.

Gollum is my pick, he’s one of the people. Unsung.

(Also Sam would have been toast had it been Gundam.)

Similar to the rules on "C" and 'D", General or other G titles don't count unless it's a proper name, so Grand Admiral Thrawn doesn't count as G for example.

DS9's best example of a recurring character fleshed out better than many main characters on other shows. A man arguably forced into finding some decency, and dignity, within himself due to being exiled on a Bajoran/Federation space station. Will lie about anything and everything just for the practice.

(I've set myself a "one character per work" limit, but I'm using up Star Trek so quickly...)
