      @hpod16 a question I had for some time: when it comes to enlargement, are there plans to simplify finding a consensus? How to deal with countries sabotaging decision processes?

        @grob ... ahhh the age old questions of veto-power...
        Off the top of my head: EU accession, and the fact that it requires all countries to sign off, is written down in the treaties. And any treaty change would require unanimity too. So this is tricky. But I can and will look deeper into this. 💜 Great question, thanks!

          @hpod16 Climate: we're heading for a catastrophe but the focus of politicians is on their own small power struggles.

            @hpod16 @grob Oh, they could sign a new treaties. And the vetos would just not be part of that new EU 2.0

              Sort of what is being handled as a two-speed Europe in the media…
              It’s a possibility, although I don’t like to deal in speculation

                    @hpod16 hope is not a valid concept in politics.

                    It’s not only Hungary. It’s countries that like to take the benefits but refuse to stand up for the common values.

                        The transparency register, specific lobby groups and their impacts, EU rules that aim to prevent undue influence?

                            @hpod16 thanks. I want to know why lobbyists are allowed. It seems to give undue influence to those who have most access to resources and disadvantages those people and systems that have no or little money.

                                    @abhayakara oh yes, housing!
                                    The European commission last year announced the affordable housing plan. It’s fairly new for the EU to get involved in this topic, but I think there’s some interesting stuff there.
                                    Like how do short-term rental platforms, like Airbnb affect house prices in highly touristic areas? And what are the solutions to regulate those? I’ve seen some cool initiatives coming out of certain cities, the EU could make sure that those solutions are shared across borderers…

                                      @jarjan I think that technically falls under trade 😉 although I’m not sure what standards you’re speaking about. Do you have any further info/sources?

                                        I'm working on some deep dives into #EU Policy topics, for my personal accounts but also for work. Which policy area would you like to know more about?

                                        @hpod16 bilateral agreements with its non-EU neighbours.
