Hey @FediTips@social.growyourown.services, I've been thinking lately about drawing up some documentation for folk to use on the Fediverse. @xaetacore and I have noticed lately that there is a rather toxic culture surrounding #fediblock and have wanted to write some guides to help the users on instances curate their own experience on the Fediverse rather than relying solely on the moderation of their instance to do so.

We hope to supplement and improve existing moderation efforts rather than replace them entirely. It is our hope that by prompting a shift in the responsibility of curating content from instances to their users. Instance operators and their moderation won't feel compelled to act as an arbiter of philosophy by selecting which content may and may not be seen beyond the scope of generally agreed upon illegal or egregious content.

Instead, offering more user agency by providing the tooling, framework and guidance through which they can curtail undesirable content without sorting to suspending entire instances at the expense of the users on there that have done nothing wrong.

Would you be interested in promoting or boosting such efforts?

    #FediAdmin, #MastoAdmin, #ServerAdmin, #Moderation, #Moderation, #Moderators, #FediMods, #MastoMods, #TrustAndSafety, #SocialMedia, #FediMeta, #Fedi, #Federation, #Fediverse, #Fediblock, #Sociology, #Blocklist.

@Saorsa @FediTips@social.growyourown.services I 100% support this initiative because everyone deserves fair and just treatment/evaluation.

It goes against every fiber of my being to judge a whole of people for the actions of a few.
Everyone should be judged on a fair case by case basis.

If this could help ease the cognitive load for other moderators and instance operators then i would love helping out with that.

That said, I can understand why someone may want to defederate with poa.st or nicecrew.digital as their users tend to make up the majority of the caustic material coming from those instances.

That said, I wouldn't have been fair to @niggy@poa.st or @scenesbycolleen@poa.st for example to defederate poa.st as they're some of the most unusually wholesome people from there.

Used to think the same about one particular user in nicecrew.digital until I heard that they were a journalist using the support they got from fringe communities to get replacement teeth while writing an expose on them. Haven't had the time to look into the validity of that, though.

Though position on that matter aligns with your own, that incidents which occur should be handled on a case-by-case basis rather than dismissively attribute it to an entire demographic.

Y'know, I don't doubt that most people would have been of the same opinion at some point but have since given up on trying to reason with bad actors wasting time by acting without good faith or intentions.
