@benroyce @the5thColumnist @farbel @retech @DonChacale @spreadthetruth people (especially Americans) are generally not smart, and only believe what talking heads on networks owned by a corrupt billionaire tell them.

What's an Americans average reading comprehension level again, 5th grade? Yeah, we are cooked. No wonder we are headed for full on fascism.

i agree except with your conclusion

    cynicism is self-fulfilling prophecy

    we fight

    we always fight

and any argument against fighting, such as cynicism, only aids fascism

          the answer to

          "i don't do politics"

          is simple:

          "but politics does you

so you better engage, or you will be engaged with on the chosen terms of bigot fascist ghouls who got in power because you ignored politics"

@A_Minion @retech @benroyce @DonChacale @spreadthetruth "start at the bottom & ask the people." That is voting. Unfortunately a whole lot of people shrug and say "I dunno." or "I don't care." A whole lot more are manipulated into voting against their own interests, and another majority don't understand that, in a democracy, nobody gets everything thery want, so they stay home and bitch instead of doing the work.

Yup, so that is why Ben and several others are up here is to push, beg, convince, cajole, intimidate, scream to get people to vote

i'll give you my brutally honest response:

fuck your friends, your friends fucking suck. whiny useless cynics suck

              find new friends

              really. fuck entitled lumps

i know that's easy for me to say. but empty cynics will only grind your gears in the end, so a soft retreat at least is coming anyways

If we yell enough, bludgeon enough maybe just maybe we could get 1 or 2 to plan ahead a bit. Alaskan Natives have the idea that if you are going to make changes big changes you need to look at what those changes will do over the next 7 generations.

the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is NOT democratic

the National Socialist German Workers' Party was NOT socialist

                      etc

                      people forget:

                      1. the historical evolution of a country or party
                      2. ideological terms are complex with muddy contradictory meanings
                      3. that propaganda will paint an ideological term in an unfair light

then people will spend twenty years arguing about fucking terminology and forget real issues

@benroyce @the5thColumnist @farbel @retech @DonChacale @spreadthetruth My favourite example of this is countries that have chosen to add the word "United" to their names.

Often such countries are like a couple who constantly argue but defer getting divorced by having more children.

This keeps them from having to confront the fact that they should never have got together in the first place.

All that remains holding them together is a mutual dislike of their neighbours.

Very much a "white savior will come to rescue us" flavor in there.
American voters need to wake up and realize that it is THEIR job to find and pick good candidates, not some party leadership or deity.

every state has different rules about who can #vote in the #primary

you got closed, partially closed, partially open, open to unaffiliated voters, open, multi-party, etc

it's fucking complicated, and part of our problem with voting in general in the #USA because people are never educated about it and never figure it out

it still doesn't mean they are free of blame IF THEY DON'T FUCKING VOTE IN THE #PRIMARIES

                              educate yourself AND VOTE

@benroyce @roknrol @mikelovesbikes @retech in #wyoming almost every office is chosen in the Primary and they’re almost always republicans This will be a very difficult state to turn even slightly purple.

@benroyce @horqua @roknrol @mikelovesbikes @retech My state isn’t quite as red as Wyoming, but I seriously considered registering Republican in 2024 long enough to try to vote for the least worst. In the end, I decided it was more to my advantage to select Dems in local gov races (county, city). But that’s the thing I’d encourage everyone to do… look at the ballot and be strategic and make a choice. Don’t be passive.

(My ride is in garage till the ice is gone).

What pisses me off is we could have had what they have. The basic economics was in place, people were beginning to do well, even business was making money. We fought for civil right race & sex, education expansion. The right has been fighting ever since FDR to gain total control & bring back the depression. They finally did it.

                                    Peace

@benroyce @the5thColumnist @farbel @retech @DonChacale @spreadthetruth My favourite example of this is countries that have chosen to add the word "United" to their names.

Often such countries are like a couple who constantly argue but defer getting divorced by having more children.

This keeps them from having to confront the fact that they should never have got together in the first place.

All that remains holding them together is a mutual dislike of their neighbours.

"Because you know you will survive"

most of those cosplaying revolutionary will not survive a real revolution

furthermore, revolutions are not bastions of ideological purity. whoever wins could be worse. even if by some miracle something better does win, the new regime will still deal with impotent purists whining "but i want perfect, waah"

toxic idealists who bizarrely defer to revolution are excuse making for their own uselessness

They also seem to think it'll be just a jaunty weekend of bloodshed and then we all just roll over to whoever is on top after that. No, an actual revolution will take a decade of unspeakable horrors unfolding in their time. The rest of your life will be terrible. Your children's lives might be normal eventually. Only the grandchildren stand any chance of living better once that line is crossed.

                                          @skotchygut @farbel @retech @DonChacale @spreadthetruth

revolution cosplayers suffer from main character syndrome and think it will be like a movie

and they believe, hilariously, that the factions will be ideologically rigorous

none of this excuses our current suffering

it means they should be *effective* about fixing it rather than retreating into a cringe fantasy life (hint: VOTE)

and revolution happens when people are hungry. there is hunger in the usa but we're far from general famine
