    @FanCityKnits @knitting @fiberarts large arm holes are good, too, easier to put on

    @energisch_

    Yeah, I was thinking that, too. While I shorten the whole garment quite a bit I'm keeping the armholes quite large.

      Bottom part finished.

      I'm using this pattern https://www.garnstudio.com/pattern.php?id=10480&cid=19, size M but only 50 cm long as my MIL has gotten very tiny (she wasn't tall to being and now she's close to 90).

      I've joined the 3 bottom pieces after finishing the vent because I definitely don't want to sew with this yarn. Now about 30 rows until the armholes.

      The yarn changes color depending on light - it's just the picture that makes it look different.

      The body of the vest is finished - I had a day off of work yesterday and dedicated most of that to this project.

      I've now used exactly 5 of the 6 cakes, with only the button band missing I should be good.

      I know I have a lot of buttons somewhere, I just don't remember where I put them 😬 but I could find these and I think they look nice and have a good size - not to fiddly and not to heavy.

            @knitting @fiberarts

            One of the reasons why I don't like knitting with thicker yarns: so many ends to weave in.

            6 balls, 2 knots adding additional ends, cutting yarn and starting again at a different point. It's about 20 ends. And with heavier yams it's more difficult to find a good place to hide the ends.

            Meh.

              Button band done, buttons sewn on. I used a sock yarn that somewhat matches the color of the vest. I didn't dare use the original yarn.

              It's now been washed and is waiting to be dry.

              I might be a bit biased (because I don't really like the yarn) but it already looked a bit worn around the cast on. And I definitely haven't put a lot of wear and tear on the project - one week of knitting, nearly all of it at home, not carrying it around.

                  It's an interesting mix between grey and mauve, depending on light.

                    And it's done, washed and dried. Grew a bit (I hung it up to dry), it's no more the length of XS, but it would grow to that length anyway (mostly alpaca and cotton), so that's okay, better knowing now what it would turn into anyway.

                    The only unknown is how the yarn will stand up to wear and tear. The cast on in the second picture looks already a bit fuzzy.

                    Shoulder seams are closed with my favorite bind off for connecting live sts.

                        @DoubleTreble

                        About the color I'm not worried - my MIL bought the yarn herself. I hope she likes the pattern. But so far she liked what I made for her (not that many). She's from a generation where every girl learned all the fiber crafts so she at least knows how much time it takes to make something. Which helps with appreciation.
