... because, if Iran develops a nuclear weapon, other countries in the region - Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt - will follow suit.
"Widespread nuclear proliferation..all as a result of Israel's insistence on maintaining, not only its illegal nuclear weapons arsenal, but going to war to maintain its monopoly."

This is the central irony of Israeli government belligerence. By violently oppressing the just cause of Palestinians it creates future generations implacably opposed to Israel; by attacking its neighbours it ensures they see Israel as their enemy, and build up their own military; by attempting to maintain its nuclear advantage it forces its already alienated neighbours into nuclear armament.
A sane Israeli government would end its apartheid, treat Palestinians justly, pour resources into Palestinian communities to ensure economic security, work with its neighbouring countries to marginalise extremists, etc, etc...

@GeofCox @DrALJONES ah but equality and prosperity for their neighbours is anathema for the Israeli extreme right wing government, who want permanent war to remain in power and for a significant portion of them expansion from the Nile to the Euphrates. When they say this it’s not a metaphor. In the words of Angelou, when someone tells you who they are, believe them.
