@janvlug I'd consider an EU based OS instead, like Sailfish, but then again it only runs on their devices and it isn't completely OSS. Degoogled options aren't bad as well, mostly because of the rich development community and tools, but then again it might some day cease existing. It's a tricky situation, so many options.

@janvlug im on Furilabs FL1Xs and the screen already cracked, also maps and bluetooth are really difficult. may end up on iphone soon

@dademurphy what exactly are you on about
-
@dademurphy @janvlug @purism I only use my phone to call or text, have a couple of official apps I can't live without in Denmark, and for travel. everything else I can do in a browser.
What exactly am I walling myself off from? People who didn't care about me?
@skulesz @janvlug@mastodon.social @purism Pretty sure I already answered that.

If you’re using a device that isn’t compatible with Android or iOS products, you just hobbled your overall experience because you think you’re free to use a Linux phone when all you actually did was lock yourself behind a bigger wall.

️Hell, you would be better off with a basic flip phone if that’s all you do, why spend money on a device that will never catch on?

@janvlug Can you run apps that try to detect if you've rooted your phone, like banking apps (and in my country, even the official health app)?

@janvlug @Gina How do you deal with Purism‘s enablement of fascists and Nazis by allowing them to utilize their platform as a safe harbor?
PS: There are A TON of articles[^1] about them on the web concerning this topic, and you’d really be hard-pressed not to have heard of any of it; but maybe that’s the goal? “Free” hardware over anything?

@codo @janvlug
You can easily turn any website into a webapp, whether it's defined as a PWA or not. Pic related.Battery, in my experience: 4-5 hours of active use; 12-14 hours of idling without sleeping; 22-24 hours in system suspend where it wakes up from calls and SMS.
Calls and SMS have been reliable for me here in Poland, but it's always subject to carrier compatibility now with VoLTE.
In general there's no need to reboot at all unless updating or working on the kernel.

@dos @janvlug Thank you both for the answers. I'd love to see Purism get better and more widely available, but I'm not prepared to be an adopter yet. I used to think my requirements were quite minimal, but when using the Librem I've realized all the functionality that I've been taking for granted on /e/OS.

Sure, everyone can have a Librem5 smartphone, if they want to pay double for it and triple for the monthly access and fees.
Great idea. Needs a more affordable business model.

How do you deal with banking and government apps? Those are the main pain point for me since they usually do not work without gplay services -

@benroyce @skulesz@mastodon.social @purism How long am I supposed to wait until gatekeepers like yourself allow me to speak? Would my comment be any more/less accurate if I had been here for ten years with 1000 followers? No, only petty, ignorant people like yourself use such silly metrics.
How is Linux doing? It’s still on the outside looking in, clown. Only tech savvy people use it, most still use a Mac or PC, just like most cell phone users use Android or iOS.

Dude its just a tool and all the communication features are international standards and work with the purism.
So what if it can't install popular software. That's not cutting himself off.

@janvlug If we want opensource mobile OSes to succeed, they need officially supported banking apps and identity verification apps. These are crucial to me but they only exist on iOS and Android.
