Deutsche Telekom charges consumers for broadband access and then also charges content providers for bandwidth to their customers. If you're the platform, nobody can afford not to do business there. -
@renardboy @Legit_Spaghetti @cmconseils add sponsorblock as well. It uses community notes to auto skip the YouTuber ad reads and promos.
Home
SponsorBlock is a crowdsourced browser extension to skip sponsor segments in YouTube videos.
(sponsor.ajay.app)
Its amazing how well it works. Right after any big youtuber releases a video, it skips over them. Even smaller youtubers will ad skip within a few minutes of release, and if not, the plugin let's you easy annotate the start - stop to help others.

@hardindr
So do open-source apps like Newpipe.
@cmconseils@niavy @cmconseils not sure what that is, I use YouTube too much, but not as a creator

@springdiesel Ratthi poked absently at the food left on his plate, then slid it over to Arada so she could finish it off. “That solid-state screen interface, I’ve seen those in historical displays.”
@murderbotbot murderbotbot, do you respond to any message?

@cmconseils at least it's a step up from newspapers, where you have to pay just for the privilege of seeing the ads! (and occasionally some unsponsored content)

@cmconseils I don't mind. I just hate when I pay and still see ads. It is a company after all with bills and to make profit. It wouldn't exist without profit. I run a Mastodon and peertube instance and if it wasn't for me putting in my own money it wouldn't exist as donations don't always cover the cost.

@iris I did everything I could think of to do, then finally let myself go on standby while I caught up on my serials.

@cmconseils You pay us to opt-out or we will throw you in the advertising derivatives market. This is enshitification 101 and it's been going on since soap operas were in black and white.

@cmconseils That’s a pretty common business model these days. As users, we’re partly responsible for it too. The only real way out would be to switch platforms or build new ones, but let’s be honest: that’s not going to happen anytime soon since people don’t change habits easily. In the meantime, we can just use the options mentioned here to avoid ads. A few more I've mentioned earlier https://social.linux.pizza/@wwwgem/116389523834889713

@cmconseils Youtube wins either way. Except when you don’t use YouTube or you download stuff using yt-dl in which case you get to see everything without ads and in this case you win.
