@iris I did everything I could think of to do, then finally let myself go on standby while I caught up on my serials.

@cmconseils You pay us to opt-out or we will throw you in the advertising derivatives market. This is enshitification 101 and it's been going on since soap operas were in black and white.

@cmconseils That’s a pretty common business model these days. As users, we’re partly responsible for it too. The only real way out would be to switch platforms or build new ones, but let’s be honest: that’s not going to happen anytime soon since people don’t change habits easily. In the meantime, we can just use the options mentioned here to avoid ads. A few more I've mentioned earlier https://social.linux.pizza/@wwwgem/116389523834889713

@cmconseils Not if you use Brave Browser.

It blocks them without any add-ons.

@cmconseils Youtube wins either way. Except when you don’t use YouTube or you download stuff using yt-dl in which case you get to see everything without ads and in this case you win.

It pays 45% to 55% of the revenue *after YouTube has deducted its operating cost*.

Deutsche Telekom charges consumers for broadband access and then also charges content providers for bandwidth to their customers. If you're the platform, nobody can afford not to do business there.

I'm so old that I remember when our state first got Cable Television. The big feature was that we could all watch movies with no ads. Pretty soon it was you could watch movies with no ads on certain channels. Then it was if you paid extra for premium channels, you could watch certain movies without ads sometimes. That's when I got rid of Cable.
