Someone just announced that they're blocking me for "acting like a know-it-all".

@mattblaze 100%. I know this word gets thrown around very casually here, but I think it fits: I can think of almost no pursuit that is more overtly fascist than policing who is allowed to share knowledge. Keep it up!
I had to double take the OP when I saw this. What?
Someone blocked you for sharing stuff you know?

(a) If you don't like reading what I post - for any reason or no reason - blocking me is a great solution. Seriously, I don't mind!
(b) If you expect me to apologize for knowing stuff, see (a), above.
Consumer mindset. Did they ask to see the manager?

I think it is weird to announce blocks, too. Just do it and move on.

@corbden One think I do try very hard to do is prioritize kindness (meaningfully helping in whatever way) over "niceness" (superficial politeness). I don't always succeed, but that's the ideal I try to live up to.
@mattblaze It shows. I've trained myself to look for red flags in people, and you've given none. Treating trolls, snobs, and bullies with ruthlessness is the only kind thing to do on behalf of others they prey on. (Something I often struggle to do because I was groomed by abusers to do otherwise. But I'm learning.)

One thing that is very clear is that I rub a small but still non-trivial number of people here the wrong way. I honestly don't know what it is.
I could approach this in a couple different ways.
One is deep introspection, explore what it is about me that some people react negatively to, and endeavor to change
Another is to recognize that you can't please everyone, and accept that that's just how life is.
At my age, life is too short for anything but the latter.
Block away if I bother you.
@mattblaze I like that expression, "Only accept criticism from those from whom you'd also accept advice"
If it's a mutual who has thoughtful writing on other topics who is critical, then maybe a few moments introspection.
If it's a rando then no need to deal.

The world needs more kindness. Let us only settle for being nice when being kind is out of reach.

Maybe I could be "nicer" or "less arrogant" or whatever. But frankly, I'm not here to cater to everyone else's needs. Fuck it. I am who I am.

@mattblaze I follow you for the photography. The commentary is a bonus.

Deep introspection and self-improvement is hard work, not an infinite resource. It’s necessary when you’re rubbing people wrong who you respect or care for. You can’t be spending that gold on every damned loon. -

Some people take themselves very seriously and are quite unforgiving if any debate and/or humor is interjected by others. Normal people avoid them, but you do you - it's good entertainment

Even that is more introspection than I have time for. Rock on! -

Wait... you were "acting"?

@mattblaze I think you’re nice and never feel like you’re arrogant.
Don’t change, people can block you, and if they bother you too much you should just block them, too.
Life is too short for dealing with this -
To be clear, I appreciate, and have learned much from, people who share stuff they know. I am on team know-it-all!
@mattblaze I’m just a guy on the internet but I appreciate your informative posts, and photos with their background explainers. Thank you

@mattblaze This is the way.
After a few years here, I’m at the point where I block people merely for being mildly unpleasant with someone I follow.
This isn’t work nor family. I’m not obligated to put up with anyone whose company I don’t enjoy.

@mattblaze Matt, I hope I don’t risk being blocked, but here goes. As a follower I see your posts complaining about negative reactions, but not the offending posts. The targets won’t pay attention anyway or, like me, assume your words apply to someone else.
I probably have a fraction of your number of followers, but isn’t it better to ignore and/or block than to post complaints about them? Also, many silly posts come from AI bots and trolls which, like all wild animals, we mustn’t feed.
