(a) If you don't like reading what I post - for any reason or no reason - blocking me is a great solution. Seriously, I don't mind!
(b) If you expect me to apologize for knowing stuff, see (a), above.
@mattblaze
Wait... you were "acting"?
🤭 -
@mattblaze 100%. I know this word gets thrown around very casually here, but I think it fits: I can think of almost no pursuit that is more overtly fascist than policing who is allowed to share knowledge. Keep it up!
@maxleibman @mattblaze same for who is allowed to share an opinion. All too often people get told to stay in their lane and not express a political opinion.
-
To be clear, I appreciate, and have learned much from, people who share stuff they know. I am on team know-it-all!
If you have a $1 bill, and I have a $1 bill, and you give me your $1 bill and I give you my $1 bill, we still have $1 each.
But if you have an idea, and I have an idea, after we swap them we'll have TWO ideas each!

Dear Mr. Know-it-all,
I ment to thank you for explaining the FDNY call reporting network as first implemented and as it works at present. Such details accompanying photos also delight.
Thank you.

@mattblaze A know-it-all, huh...
Bet you don't know what's my favorite animal!

One thing that is very clear is that I rub a small but still non-trivial number of people here the wrong way. I honestly don't know what it is.
I could approach this in a couple different ways.
One is deep introspection, explore what it is about me that some people react negatively to, and endeavor to change
Another is to recognize that you can't please everyone, and accept that that's just how life is.
At my age, life is too short for anything but the latter.
Block away if I bother you.

@mattblaze I don't get people who complain about what other folks post. If people don't like what you post, they don't have to follow you.

@mattblaze most of the time I'll start by looking at their other posts (if possible) and nearly always discover it's not me, it's them

Maybe I could be "nicer" or "less arrogant" or whatever. But frankly, I'm not here to cater to everyone else's needs. Fuck it. I am who I am.

@mattblaze
A while back, my brother complained to me about what I was posting on Facebook and told me to change. I told him "my page, my rules". I then suggested in language our mother would approve of that if he didn't like it, he didn't have to follow me. -

@mattblaze I'm all about not being a people pleaser at my age anymore. If you dislike me, that's on you so I get what you're saying.

@mattblaze FWIW, I think you present yourself just fine and find your thoughtful and knowledgeable posts about things in your wheelhouse reassuring in these days of most reacting before thinking.

People like that are who Carl Sagan was talking about when he wrote about the dumbing down of America.
There seems to be a kind of inverted snobbery where people seem proud to wallow in being ill-informed.
Keep on sharing knowledge.

It's their loss.
They could just unfollow you.
But, no, they think that throwing a hissyfit is important.

Losers. They could easily block you but they get off telling you what to do. Just another authoritarian who can only be improved by a meathook. -

@mattblaze I've followed you for many years (since Twitter I believe) and I've always found your read of people and your reactions to be justified. I'm trigger-sensitive to people who speak rudely out of malice or cruelty, and you don't come off that way to me.
I learn a lot from you about how to put up with less nonsense. Politeness need not be reciprocated towards people who are themselves rude.

@mattblaze
Some people hate those that know more than them. They can’t learn anything from others as it makes themselves feel weak and inadequate.
So instead they get mad at you for their ignorance. Their response is to become more ignorant by blocking you for no other reason than that.IFYKYK

@mattblaze How dare you, like, know stuff, and then share it. Unbelievable.

@corbden One think I do try very hard to do is prioritize kindness (meaningfully helping in whatever way) over "niceness" (superficial politeness). I don't always succeed, but that's the ideal I try to live up to.
