@neil Every time I've tried to install pandoc I've got into some sort of dependency hell. I'm writing a book, so I guess it will soon be time to try again.

Using Pandoc to format a Dissertation from Markdown to HTML, PDF, and ePub

Metawork is so much more fun than real work. Sharpening your pencils. Colour coordinating your filing system. Creating Gantt charts of what you intend to do. Marvellous! In that spirit, here's how I used the venerable pandoc to convert my MSc dissertation from .md into a variety of more readable formats. Prep I've no idea what you already have installed on your system but, at a minimum, you…

@roadskater Markdown has only been around for 22ish years, so give it some time to settle down, I guess. No point rushing to adopt such things.

@neil I did have some experience with runoff as a "markup" language on a DEC RSTS/E system about 1980. I may have been accused by a high school teacher with cheating because all my classmates had to use typewriters, or OMG, write the damn paper in longhand.

How? I had access to the school district's computer center and its daisy -wheel printers.

@grumpydad @neil Yes, with Emacs you get rid of the bloat of markdown and only use one software, Emacs and its built-in org (and all the other built-in things).

Please don't make a fuss about it, we once suggested #Vim to a friend in #RL and their reply was like 'Huh, ain't that a dishwashing liquid ?'

We've been waiting for almost a decade to make this quip
