@april Now now I didn't design my own distro, I'm just a contributor to one
@cwebber im currently making my own
and i did design or coauthor Versia as federated network but too tired for that and back with just being a average AP user haha

@janneke Pretty much I am the same way with vegetarianism / veganism as I am with free software
I still run my nonfree blobs to keep my computer running but if everyone were running hippie computers with FOSS, we could get rid of those much easier too
@cwebber
I would love to see a vegetarian world.Much like I would love to see a mostly vegan world where half of the people would still eat honey and ride a horse from time to time.
I believe we'll get there eventually and have to focus on the path and on inspiring and acknowledging eachother.

I'm also a huge fan of trains
@cwebber but also, so tired of the crappy individualist approach! 51% of Americans going vegan won't save us, but 51% of Americans voting as a block could.
There was a plastic straw ban passed where I live, which I think was one of the dumbest "pretend to care" things possible. It pisses of conservatives, and is annoying, and everyone can complain about big government.
Actual change? Ban plastic beverage containers, cans and glass are fine, and the beer industry proves it can work.

@cwebber I very much like high speed trains, the kind we've been promised for decades but assholes in government keep killing.

@cwebber but also I do agree, all of the above, but we have to think big too

@cwebber I was interested in the topic on building a protocol as activitypub that’s as sustainable as possible in every way, especially energy-wise. And if it would be possible to perfect it in this matter.
Unfortunately this topic was not well received and I've been blocked for just mentioning it because it made some people uncomfortable. I find it really saddening.

@cwebber @janneke Reminds me that sometimes I feel like it's much easier to go vegan than go full free software, like for vegan stuff in my experience you can get your stuff at the local shops fine and problems are more when away from your familiar areas.
While full free software depends on more and more niche hardware and even then you're still making compromises. -

I am vegetarian *and* I am worried about datacenter impact on climate change
@cwebber some people are willing to let my not doing EVERYTHING stand in the way of their doing ANYTHING (besides comment online, of course).
Because commenting online on how people are trying to save the world the wrong way is what is going to save us in the end.
