Firefox noooo
-
@rixx It's a bit stupid but you can block all AI stuff in Firefox with a single toggle. Just FYI.
-
@rixx they have been trying everything for "shake to do..." First it was "take a picture" then "report an error" then something else, now this. SMDH.
-
@rixx You ride a bike without shock absorbers? What are you, a prole?

@farbenstau yup.
-
@rixx To paraphrase Apple: "you're riding it wrong" 🤪

@farbenstau danke fürs Klarstellen, dass du wirklich nur anlasslos rumstänkern willst *plonk*

@rixx Ach Gottchen. Die Smileys hast Du einfach mal hart ignoriert, ja?

@rixx how could anyone at mozilla believe that this was a good idea...
@StephaneHuart
This brings them money. So dis good.
@rixx -
@DJRNDM @rixx I don't think Mozilla want's to be perceived that way. They add these features for people to see and experience them and then decide if they want them or not. Mozilla probably wouldn't put in the work if it was opt in. I think some people want Mozilla to be the anti AI company but I don't think they are.
I'm just glad that there is an easy opt out that also works for future features.

From Mozilla's homepage: "From trustworthy tech to policies that defend your digital rights, we put you first — always."
Do I have to explain why Opt-out / default AI doesn't defend digital rights?
I don't want them to be absolutely Anti. In this case, I would've written "this should not exist".

I had a Motorola phone with "flick to turn on flashlight". That was nice. A single flick, not a vaguely defined "shake".
-
@rixx
Shake your device to send a notification to Mozilla that says "Firefox, noooo..." -
Apart from the AI thing, "shake to do X" is so fucked
@rixx feature request: shake your phone to instantly shed all AI features from all apps.
(Remember to shake weekly because they creep back up like a swarm of flees from hell.) -

@DJRNDM @rixx I think they host these services themselves so they probably see themselves as trustworthy. Also opt out also preserves your rights. You just have to do it proactively. But you have the right to opt out and they respect it.
I am not defending Mozilla. IMHO the should put their efforts somewhere else. But AI is a an open strategy for them and opt out is their compromise. I can live with that though I'd prefer it to be different.

@rixx Bad fox! *squirts spray bottle*
-
@rixx@chaos.social yes the ai summarizing itself is bad but who the hell decided shaking was the best possible interaction to trigger it lol

The internet - where everything is turned into a sex thing sooner or later. Now you can wank your Firefox to spill AI summary all over the place...

@jrdepriest @rixx it will be something different and more dystopian next time.
"Shake to Present Papers"
"Shake to swear loyalty"
"Shake it or Die" -
@rixx
How is it enabled if mozilla claims that "Enabling Shake to summarize is optional"?
