    @whitequark huh, we're normally somewhat desensitized to ESLisms, but we were curious enough once you've mentioned it and..... this is english's fault, as far as we can tell!

    doing a reverse machine translation yields a rather directly-corresponding "请理解" which *is* literally "[please] [understand/comprehend]" but would idiomatically be "please be understanding"

    because the copula in english is weird!

        @wezm @whitequark that, probably mostly the former, with the additional wrinkle that the packaging may not label them differently and they don't want to send opened boxes either.
