Image of Arp 284, also known as NGC 7714 and NGC 7715, from the Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies by Halton Arp (1966).In the original catalog, it was in the category: Double and multiple galaxies - Infall and attraction. NGC 7714 (bottom) and NGC 7715 (top) had a close encounter about 100 million to 200 million years ago. By definition, it's really hard to see a galaxy that's mostly made of dark matter. Finding this one required doing a statistical search for globular clusters that were gathered around apparent nothingness.
