@CTHW Hmm, yeah, she might be one GG who would actually have the confidence to stand up to a PM in defence of the constitution.But now you've got me imagining an alternate reality where it was PM Louise Arbour, defender of human rights, appointing internationally-respected former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney as Governor General. That'd be nice, although I can't imagine a situation that would have ever get her into partisan politics, so here we are: the people I'd want making big decisions are at best getting appointed positions.I do wonder at the woman who get bored with being a Supreme Court Justice accepting a position that is all ceremonies & diplomacy & little direct impact. But it's only a 5-year term & she's a couple decades older than when she left the court.
