A couple miles further along, the Cascade River Road enters the North Cascades National Park. I grew up in Western Washington, and *technically* I think this was the first time that I've ever actually been *in* this National Park. I've driven over the North Cascades Highway repeatedly, but it never actually enters the park -- it's in the Ross Lake National Recreation Area, not the park itself. According to the park service's map, even the park's visitor center isn't actually *in* the park.From what I can see, this is the only actual road in the entire park, although the very top of the Stehekin Valley Road *might* make it into the park as well, depending on how much of it has washed away lately. Since Stehekin isn't connected to the rest of the country's road system, though, it's hard to count it as a road into the park.
