@mayintoronto Perhaps related: I have been thinking about a deeper reason why too many cisgender men (not all, obviously) really hate trans women, but seem less concerned about trans men. (Though certainly trans men do get a lot of hate, and are more often the victims of trans-hate violence than we realize.) I think it's more than the cis man's fear that they might be "accidentally" attracted to a woman who was AMAB. I think it offends them that someone would "choose" to be a woman, since this group of cis men (straight or gay, btw) see women as inferior. They can understand to some extent, a woman "choosing" to be a man, because they consider that an "upgrade." It would explain why they often hate gay women more than trans men. Women rejecting men as potential partners is much more offensive to them, than a woman transitioning to *be* a man. There's misogyny wrapped up in so much of the targeted hate that we see.
