The v 8 bullshit is still circulating as serious alternative 🤦

Unfortunately also tagged with IPv6 😭

And of course with the beautiful framing like "the IETF revealed a new proposal".

Ich meine die IETF, die scheinbar für *jeden* Vorschlag offen ist, ihn unter ihrer Domain zu veröffentlichen.

@tschaefer in general I've been responding with https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-meow-mrrp/ when people point to the "IPv8 draft"

@tschaefer In a sense it's great: It produces an implicit list of media publishers without any competence in contextualizing information.

@tschaefer At the current rate, the proposal -- which I will not even dignify with a name -- will become a litmus test, to detect people who genuinely do not understand one iota of network complexity, or history for that matter.

Such people must never be put in charge of anything more complicated than plugging in an Ethernet cord.

@tschaefer I like that it expires in October. Without a valid proof of concept, that’ll be the end of it.

There has been a steady stream of bad proposals and some Aprils Fools jokes making fun of those.

I think the proposals themselves are not the real problem here, but rather they are a symptom of a problem. The actual problem I think is people looking for excuses to not deploy IPv6. And whenever they see an alternative proposal they see that as another excuse they can use.

I am not sure these proposals are doing any harm. The mindset of the people who endorse them can slow down IPv6 deployments without needing stupid alternative proposals.

@kasperd @tschaefer Agreed. We’ve hit 50% IPv6 deployment (if we use Google as a reference) so we’re in a good position to start using their argument against them. If trying to shore up IPv4 made sense because it was the majority protocol at the time, it’s worth finally committing to IPv6 now that it has taken the crown.

@jima @tschaefer @ghostinthenet Do IETF proposals get their TTL extended when there's a revision?

I would support additional meowing in the only proposal that's worth talking about, just to make sure it sticks around. 🐱

@litchralee_v6 @tschaefer @ghostinthenet Can I make matters worse by providing his rationale? 🤭

@jima @tschaefer @ghostinthenet For different reasons, I no longer use archive\.is links or visit them

@litchralee_v6 @tschaefer @ghostinthenet It wasn't my first choice, but the Wayback Machine can't scrape LinkedIn posts, apparently. 😒

Got a better alternative? I'm game.
