@ami_angelwings #FavCharacterAtoZ #FavCharacterD Dall Sabin, from Tactical Breach Wizards. She's a hero of the resistance, that outright stole a riot cop's gear, and uses it themselves. Interestingly, while her nation is oppressed by a theocracy, she's not an atheist; she actually follows an opposing denomination of the same religion. The writing of the conflict is fascinating. On top of all that, she's a lot of fun to play, ramming into enemies at high speed.

I thought I knew for sure who my #FavCharacterD was but then I remembered Diana of Themyscira (Wonder Woman) but she can also go under W & I don't *think* I have any conflicts in W.

Anyway I'm gonna go with my first choice:

Dinobot from Transformers: Beast Wars (or "Beasties" as it was called in Canada e_e), setup to make you think he's like Starscream, turns into a loyal Maximal, and ends up dying a hero, sacrificing his life going 1 on 7 against ALL THE PREDACONS by himself (he wasn't even a transmetal) to save future humanity, using the last of his energy to eyeblast the Golden Disc, preventing Megatron from seeing the future.

it's amazing how dark that show was able to get, skirting the line with implication. In a previous episode Dinobot had given the golden disc to Megatron when he realized Megatron was right all along and didn't strand them on the planet for no reason, and he wonders about what his destiny is, but then he ultimately can't bring himself to kill Rattrap (his beloved) and turns back on Megatron realizing he's not a Predacon at heart.

This act leads to him trying to get redemption by destroying the disc, but the episode opens with him holding his sword to his torso. I guess the censors missed it, but he was clearly going to kill himself for his mistake before he decided that he controls his own fate and he can still fix things and prevent Megatron from succeeding.

He is pretty interesting, though. Rare case of mad supercomputer that's less 'mad' as in 'has lost its marbles' and more 'mad' as in 'rightfully angry with slavers'. Absolutely not a hero but at least understands that I enjoy shooting aliens and tells me I'm a good boy when I do it for him. He's definitely second.

@ami_angelwings I could gush about Death for hours but it really isn't the same as reading Reaper Man and Hogfather et al. Mileage may vary but he can be one of the most satisfying characters in British fantasy.

@ami_angelwings This one I don't have to struggle with: The Doctor, Star Trek: Voyager.

Start with Robert Picardo, an amazing actor. Then, even though it's "outsider looking in at humanity" for the fourth time in a row, and even though it's Voyager, manage to develop him as a character slowly but consistently over 7 seasons. And make him sarcastic, and arrogant, and half the time he's right to be arrogant and the other half he gets humbled.

I love The Doctor.

For D I will have to go with Don Wei from Oban Star-Racers. He's the father of the protagonist, Eva, and to say their relationship is strained would be a massive understatement. Usually I dislike stories about making amends with shitty parents because they tend to excuse treating children terribly... but Oban Star-Racers is actually great and seeing their relationship develop is super satisfying.

Basically, Eva's mother (Don's wife) died and Don was so depressed that he couldn't take care of Eva anymore and sent her off to boarding school. He never even called her on the phone or anything. Years later, Eva gets tired of this so she runs away from school and tries to meet him, but when she does, he doesn't recognize her because it's been so long. She feels intimidated so she makes up a fake identity and becomes a member of his racing team. They butt heads all the time because Don is kind of a jerk and also completely clueless he's interacting with his long lost daughter. I won't spoil how it ends, but it's really good! One of my favorite cartoons.

@ami_angelwings I think on Urusai I want to specifically compile for "AniManga characters A to Z" so I have to add an option here, and add a secondary if I pick a different one first, and I guess use a third tag just for those.

So here we'll start with Bestest Ghibli Boy, Ashitaka. Shows the consequence of actions, and determination to resolve as much conflict as possible and protect as many as he can, including the land itself. Strives the understand people, and help them understand each other.

@ami_angelwings There is a reason I'm using manga Briarios, and I want to pay him his due. Been through a lot, and of ultimate support in any situation. And a "giant moe man" before that was even a concept.

I'll be trying to stick to one character per series (unless a really important situation arises) so... sorry Deunan. But he'll let you hold his trophy anyway.
