@Tijgertje1987 The biggest reason I _have not been_ a Cascadian separatist is because of what the neo-Confederate states would do with a free hand.

So be careful what you ask for, you might get it.

(Something called the Cascadian Subduction Zone is the other big reason. Look it up.)

Okay, if this is real, this is worse than I was expecting. I've been thinking about secondary outputs but I've been thinking way more about plastics, inks, other secondaries.

I have been worried about products shortages but maybe not enough. I am and have been assuming that there will be preferential distribution to corporations (which obviously includes most freight) and least preference given to individuals trying to do their own work themselves - e.g., like RAM over the last several months. But I haven't thought about the price side of that.

And holy shit it's gonna get fugly.

          So, uh, yeah.

Maybe buy an ebike. Maybe make some plans.

@Tijgertje1987 Sure. And similarly, between a fascist united states, and a hypothetical broken-up united states, I will pick the latter _every time_.

I'd just prefer not to have to make that choice.

@marjolica Chain lubes aren't oil based. At least, not ones worth even a fraction of their price. (They exist but they're absolute shit tier.) Everything even halfway decent is some kind of wax-based.

But yes, I am stocked up even on that.

@SuperMoosie @marjolica Actually, good question! I've categorised waxes separately and mine are all biodegradable but I can't say they're not, I don't know the manufacturing process.

@moira @rpmik I'm worried about diesel engine oil. This is the second warning I've seen online about potential shortages. I bought 6 gallons of the stuff last week. It's a real shame that one idiot in Washington has to turn all of us into hoarders.

@eestileib At the same time, I'm seeing a variety of similar numbers of estimated supply shortfalls, including some people have appended in replies.

So if it's fake, it's using some numbers being quietly reported elsewhere - which makes being fake weirder.

Yeah I don't doubt that the crunch is coming mind you.

Maybe AutoZone is less shitty to work for than the typical company.

@eestileib Given how shitty _customers_ got after COVID, they're likely anticipating a similar shitty reaction and are putting on the "we're all in this together" routine.

After all, being good and nice in a memo isn't the same as actually being good and/or nice.

                                      Let’s be honest.
Those red-neck states would just got burst without the money from states like California.

                                      But yes they are terrible

Lots of marginalized people live in "red-neck states" including a very large percentage of the Black population of this country. Must be fucking nice for you to imagine the world is split into good & bad areas, but here in the real world, it doesn't work that way.

@Tijgertje1987 Sure. And similarly, between a fascist united states, and a hypothetical broken-up united states, I will pick the latter _every time_.

I'd just prefer not to have to make that choice.

@moira @Tijgertje1987 There's a reason they are suppressing the Black vote in the former Confederate states: if every citizen were allowed to vote, Democrats would win overwhelmingly. And don't fool yourself into thinking there are racist and non-racist states. A Black friend has said he feels much safer against racism in the deep South, where there are lots of Black people who have his back, than he does here in the Pacific Northwest, where the racists aren't at all nervous about being hurt themselves.

I have fantasies about seceding, too, but what we really need to do is hang every Nazi and build giant memorials, visible for miles, from their bones.

Of course I realise that, but frankly as an European that is not my problem.
That is something you yanks must fix yourself!

The rest of the world is fed up with the reckless behaviour of the USA and their tendency to wreck the world economy every 10~15 years.

And now nearly caused World War III by threatening not 1 but 2 NATO countries.
When the rest of NATO is prepared to take arms up against you in defence you really fucked up as a country
