️ public transport!Currently I have my drivers license for over 15 years now but never had to own a car. Ofc I totally understand the #Netherlands is relative small, dense and flat compared to some massive countries but we also invest a lot in public infrastructure!
Besides from being able to bike almost anywhere in the country, most places also have public transport cover
Good stuff! #NL

I write these post sitting in a bus that drives me basically to my front door for costs way less than a car would costs in fuel alone, not to mention insurance, tax and car degradation
Bonus, all busses are electric!

@stux How are you guys dealing with the proliferation of e-bikes. Here in the American backwater, it's a mess. You have 13-year-old kids with type III (basically an e-motorcycle) driving on sidewalks and killing pedestrians. The solution of punishing the kid's parents doesn't really help. It seems like we need to re-engineer our streets and licensing of vehicles. What have you guys done?

@stux it's entirely possible in the US. it just takes a willingness by (or removal of) a certain Republican party.

@stux its kinda funny, same situation for me (drivers license, never had to have a car) in Germany, only times I'd ever need a car is for the trips to the Netherlands

Yes, efficient and affordable common transportation should be mandatory everywhere.
We are very lucky here, as they couldn't get more affordable

@stux I lived for 10 years on “the peninsula” south of San Francisco ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco_Peninsula ) operating solely by bike, bus and train.
Many American cities are designed in ways where it’s not only inconvenient but nearly impossible to operate without out a car an not lose 3-4 days per day to spotty bus service.
These things are deliberate choices by city planners, but it’s still possible to operate without a car!
