    @jtb @phl @EUCommission

    and likewise, since you just admitted you aren't in the eu

    i am trying to warn europeans about where perfectionist hypercriticism leads

    you are bizarrely engaging in it of the eu, and you're not even in the eu

    @benroyce @jtb @EUCommission I really, really don't think we're being perfectionists or hypercritical, despite you latching onto those words so hard. Most of us know not to be idealists — hell, I'm coming from the Orbán country where the only solution was for every leftist to vote for a conservative, right wing guy; we're *very* far from idealism and perfectionism —, but we see the repeated refusal from the EC to take a hint with what people don't want. They just keep microsofting forward.

      @benroyce @jtb And that's how we get to the problem that the appointed people might not represent you and you have way too little control over them, both in terms of influencing them or recalling them (representatives are typically easier to pressure from below or recall, depending on the jurisdiction)

      this is a sidetopic. i can get behind some of what you're saying, and disagree in other ways. but it does not matter. because my point here is to simply say yelling at a social media account doesn't achieve anything of what concerns you

        @benroyce @phl @EUCommission "perfectionist hypercriticism" ? all I said was that the commissioners are unelected. That's true. They should be elected directly, because they write laws. Why can't I express this simple view? What is social media for anyway? All I see on here is people making unsupported statements, and then going mad at anyone who disagrees.

          and you don't see how this sort of perfectionist hypercriticism can be a troll angle by the very trollfarm you say is not here on this topic?

          @benroyce @jtb @EUCommission How is being disappointed in them not understanding no, "perfectionist hypercriticism"? If they made *one* mistake and we whined about it to no end, *that*, that would be it. This is not that. They are eroding privacy rights left and right, repeatedly, from multiple angles, to serve corporate (and US) interests before Europe's. It's not perfectionism to want something not shit, it's perfectionism to want something perfect and immaculate.

                more precisely, screaming perfectionist demands on social media, and calling it a day, and not showing up to vote

                some of this was fostered and initiated by right wing/ geopolitical trollfarm. because they understand the psyop effect halts real and effective change

                some people have the entitlement of shouting demands, and not actually doing anything to achieve what they want

                      @benroyce @richlv @paranormal_distribution@fosstodon.org @EUCommission An example of how to achieve one's goals is a study in how the GOP destroyed America in 45 years. Starting with Ronald Reagan and now with MAGA. Slowly taking over the systems and eroding trust, safety nets, education, and causing real pain, and blaming it on the Democrats. Watching what the EU has done in Europe is remarkable, and hopefully it can continue to serve its people.

                            let's put it this way: you say you're from hungary

                            did you vote? then i embrace you. shout all you want

                            did you not vote?

                            because in the usa, what happens is this:

                            people shout idealistic demands on social media, then that's it

                            on the basis of not getting perfect, right now, they don't vote. as the immature people they are who are not interested in imperfect hard slow work, but just masturbating their deranged entitlement on social media

                              @benroyce @jtb @EUCommission That was the case with the Kamala Harris votes, which is largely irrelevant here — in particular that we're not currently in an (EU) election season in the first place, and because election psyop/influence happens at a much lower level, at e.g. Russian interference in the Romanian elections, or each country's far-right parties financed by them (directly or indirectly). We're in rather different situations and different culture (i.e. what triggers or deters people).

                                    @jtb @phl @EUCommission

                                    you seem stuck on this "i know you are but what am i" mode of thought. i've responded twice already on this topic

                                    that you think you are immune by simply criticizing me back for the same behavior you are engaging in

                                    you opened the door

                                    but if you vote, indeed, i have no real problem with you

                                      @phl @jtb @EUCommission

                                      let's put it this way: you say you're from hungary

                                      did you vote? then i embrace you. shout all you want

                                      did you not vote?

                                      because in the usa, what happens is this:

                                      people shout idealistic demands on social media, then that's it

                                      on the basis of not getting perfect, right now, they don't vote. as the immature people they are who are not interested in imperfect hard slow work, but just masturbating their deranged entitlement on social media

                                      @benroyce @jtb @EUCommission I did, as I do every time, and we voted in the largest numbers ever since the change from the People's Republic era. Despite that like half of us are not whatsoever represented by the incoming conservative, right-wing government. And you probably have very little idea what the social and traditional media scene was like, because even in Europe most people were completely oblivious to just how fucked Hungary was in that respect. It could have deterred people, didn't.

                                        @benroyce @jtb @EUCommission jtb is correct in that the Commission is unelected — we only directly elect the representatives in Parliament; and the members of the European Council and Council of the European Union, inasmuch as we have direct influence on our heads of state and ministers. (neither is to be confused with the Council of Europe; I wish the EU changed the name of both). We the citizens have practically zero control over the Commission.

                                        @phl @benroyce @jtb @EUCommission yes but the president of the European Commission must be approved by the parliament. To me that sounds democratic, no?

                                          well i don't know why you have to process this so personally. i am criticizing a mode of behavior that is not tied to your personal identity. that you engage in it is true, but we all engage in behaviors that are not our best. so please process my words as an attack on a behavior, not a nullification of your entire being

                                          and thank you for the sympathy. now you know what motivates my words
