    @Tofu_Golem @mason @mistergibson

    "If they wanted liberals"

    leftists. fuck liberals

    "I'll vote in primaries"

then after all of our long history of your reply guying to me with various "blame the dems" bullshit (because the only valid thought is to not even think of them, and just replace them, all of that is just shifting blame away from where blame belongs: the nonvoter) i have nothing for you here tofu except a big hug

      @Tofu_Golem @benroyce @mason @mistergibson

they're defending capitalism, greed & self-interests. the electoral system is purposely build to pretend democratic governance to keep the population believe they're representing them but industries have bribed, coercively controlled & manipulated politicians to such extend that they're effectively running the shots.
mainstream media has done a great job gaslighting and lying to the public for generations so most ppl are brainwashed & traumatised.

right but the lesson of mamdani is we have to stop obsessing over centrist corporatist spineless dems and

      just. fucking. vote.

      that's it

      just replace them

stop feeling anger, disgust, revulsion, etc for these cowardly turds in the democratic party

      stop feeling *anything at all*

      give them *no thought*

why? why are we wasting our time caring about them at all?

just show up in the primaries, and fucking replace them

      that's it

the electoral system is build to favour the billionaire class & will not save you.

the best chance the ppl have to get their needs met is by investing in your local community & build a new way outside of capitalism & the hierarchical system of governance. educate, organise & build a society based on moral integrity, trust & equality. practice mutual aid, solidarity & community self-defense.
be self-sufficient & take responsibility for yourself.

@benroyce @mistergibson No, I couldn't vote for someone who was complicit in the genocide. Wasn't a question of being right or wrong - I didn't have a choice. I wasn't going to stay home and not vote. I know a lot of other people tried to get Harris to move on this, and none of us were successful. And it cost her the job.

It's a truism, but "if you vote for the lesser evil, you've still voted for evil."

The only vote I regret was when I voted in a Republican primary a few years ago, to vote against a really bad candidate by supporting a mildly-less-bad candidate. I felt dirty coming out of that polling station. Never voted in an R primary before, never will again.

@mason @benroyce @mistergibson so Mason may I inquire as to how you think Trump is somehow better at preventing genocide?
I mean the money and support he’s given Bibi truly must have saved untold numbers of innocent humans, right?
          Go you voting your conscience.

            no

if you ignore national politics, you can do the most fruitful constructive local community building possible, and the fascists, who now have complete control because you ignored that sphere, just come and machine gun you while laughing

            you can't ignore the vote

i am not in a billion years saying *only* vote, by all means, do the community building

            organize, educate, protest, boycott, resist:

            do it, all of it

            and vote

this is not a big ask

@benroyce @mistergibson Alright, we've gotten to that point. It sounds like you're saying "I didn't like the genocide, but I was willing to accept it to avoid a bunch of other harms."

Is genocide really just the cost of doing business? Man, not for me. We have to draw a line somewhere. Exterminating people in gas chambers and its modern equivalents seems like a pretty good place to draw that line.

Was there any candidate on the ballot in enough states to be mathematically able to win 270 EC votes who said they would have vetoed all weapons to Israel or anything like that?

(boycott, go on strike, protest). but can you do something easy (like vote) to also stop ice shooting people on the streets or stupid wars executed badly? why not do both?

@CatDragon @benroyce @mistergibson Catherine, why do you think genocide is just the cost of doing business?

My parents taught me about the Holocaust. That was an important lesson when I was little. You can sum up the lesson as, "no genocide." Pay attention to this subtlety: It wasn't "no genocide unless there's some harm reduction too." It was just, "no genocide."

                      [sarcasm warning - mirror ahead]

Catherine, why did you effectively vote for Trump by allowing the blue team to run a pro-genocide candidate?

(See what I did there? Reread what you wrote to me and you'll have a giggle when you get to it. We're both so very cute!)

                      [end of sarcasm warning]

In fact a lot of these idea-havers often don’t seem to be doing anything at all, other than posting.

@baronvonj @benroyce @mistergibson Baron: You've nailed it. We need to change the system. We can do it with ballot initiatives. Ranked Choice will prevent future such catastrophes.

Mix in a little National Popular Vote interstate compact for flavour.

If you're telling me my only choices are genocide or genocide-with-harm-reduction, then I'll call the foul and ask you to throw another one.

The Fediverse isn't as nice for threading as Usenet was, but it's all in there. Start at Ben's first post.

@benroyce @poisonpunk @Tofu_Golem @mistergibson Ben, Mamdani was also DSA, and he was up against Andrew Cuomo, the "vote blue" candidate.

Wikipedia shows precisely how RCV was instrumental in his being elected.

@mason I didn't say anything about restricting your choices to two (I had 4 to choose from in Texas) and you haven't answered my question.

@baronvonj @benroyce @mistergibson I answered by combining RCV with the interstate compact, I thought. That seemed far more useful than just answering "no".

true but he wouldn't even have needed a party if NYC had FFV (vote for whoever in the election that replaces the primary and then use RCV among the top five vote getters in the general). getting there will be difficult if it requires getting party aligned officials to vote for it, but more likely via referendum.

@mason So just to confirm, your answer is that there was not such a candidate?
