Most major #media and #socialMedia in the #USA is now right wing controlled

@benroyce @mistergibson Alright, we've gotten to that point. It sounds like you're saying "I didn't like the genocide, but I was willing to accept it to avoid a bunch of other harms."
Is genocide really just the cost of doing business? Man, not for me. We have to draw a line somewhere. Exterminating people in gas chambers and its modern equivalents seems like a pretty good place to draw that line.
@mason
Was there any candidate on the ballot in enough states to be mathematically able to win 270 EC votes who said they would have vetoed all weapons to Israel or anything like that?
@benroyce @mistergibson -
so we vote for harm reduction
because not voting means we are helping greater harm win
@benroyce @PttP @mistergibson @mason improv comedy theory of politics: yes, and...? neither political party has the right stance on an issue? yes, and... (boycott, go on strike, protest). but can you do something easy (like vote) to also stop ice shooting people on the streets or stupid wars executed badly? why not do both?
-
@poisonpunk @Tofu_Golem @mason @mistergibson
right but the lesson of mamdani is we have to stop obsessing over centrist corporatist spineless dems and
just. fucking. vote.
that's it
just replace them
stop feeling anger, disgust, revulsion, etc for these cowardly turds in the democratic party
stop feeling *anything at all*
give them *no thought*
why? why are we wasting our time caring about them at all?
just show up in the primaries, and fucking replace them
that's it
@benroyce @poisonpunk @Tofu_Golem @mistergibson The lesson of Mamdani is that we need RCV. That is why he was elected. He would not have been elected in the vote-out-of-fear system we have in most of the country.

@mason @poisonpunk @Tofu_Golem @mistergibson
mamdani ran as a democrat
so the third party benefit of rcv, that we both want, is a different topic re mamdani
stop thinking "we need this" "we want that"
think: *how* do we get it
so: we both want ranked choice voting
and?
*how* do we get it
we vote
in the current shitty system, to get a better system
it's not good enough to say "arrest trump!" for example and then... nothing
we need to fucking vote, to get the people that will do that
-
@mason @benroyce @mistergibson so Mason may I inquire as to how you think Trump is somehow better at preventing genocide?
I mean the money and support he’s given Bibi truly must have saved untold numbers of innocent humans, right?
Go you voting your conscience.@CatDragon @benroyce @mistergibson Catherine, why do you think genocide is just the cost of doing business?
My parents taught me about the Holocaust. That was an important lesson when I was little. You can sum up the lesson as, "no genocide." Pay attention to this subtlety: It wasn't "no genocide unless there's some harm reduction too." It was just, "no genocide."
[sarcasm warning - mirror ahead]
Catherine, why did you effectively vote for Trump by allowing the blue team to run a pro-genocide candidate?
(See what I did there? Reread what you wrote to me and you'll have a giggle when you get to it. We're both so very cute!)
[end of sarcasm warning]

Yeah. What we perpetually have on this here internet is a bunch of folks who are happy to declare what they think is a good idea, but apparently NOT engaged enough to do the “Here’s Very Specifically How We Try To Get That, And I Have Been Doing This” part.
In fact a lot of these idea-havers often don’t seem to be doing anything at all, other than posting.

@benroyce @mistergibson@baronvonj @benroyce @mistergibson Baron: You've nailed it. We need to change the system. We can do it with ballot initiatives. Ranked Choice will prevent future such catastrophes.
Mix in a little National Popular Vote interstate compact for flavour.
If you're telling me my only choices are genocide or genocide-with-harm-reduction, then I'll call the foul and ask you to throw another one.

@mister_shade02X2 @benroyce @poisonpunk @Tofu_Golem @mistergibson Did both of you miss my very detailed plan?
Ballot initiatives. Convincing and energizing our neighbors. Detailed discussion of why that's the hard bit necessary part.
The Fediverse isn't as nice for threading as Usenet was, but it's all in there. Start at Ben's first post.

@benroyce @poisonpunk @Tofu_Golem @mistergibson Ben, Mamdani was also DSA, and he was up against Andrew Cuomo, the "vote blue" candidate.
Wikipedia shows precisely how RCV was instrumental in his being elected.

@mason I didn't say anything about restricting your choices to two (I had 4 to choose from in Texas) and you haven't answered my question.
-
@mason I didn't say anything about restricting your choices to two (I had 4 to choose from in Texas) and you haven't answered my question.
@baronvonj @benroyce @mistergibson I answered by combining RCV with the interstate compact, I thought. That seemed far more useful than just answering "no".

@mason @benroyce @poisonpunk @Tofu_Golem @mistergibson
true but he wouldn't even have needed a party if NYC had FFV (vote for whoever in the election that replaces the primary and then use RCV among the top five vote getters in the general). getting there will be difficult if it requires getting party aligned officials to vote for it, but more likely via referendum.

@mason So just to confirm, your answer is that there was not such a candidate?
