@zeri Firstly: That comparison »is« devastating. Secondly: If you write "nothing justifies this" … would that count for the Hamas »as well« (which knowingly started this all with their October 7 attacks from 2023)?

@ojelabii @zeri @streetartutopia And just like that, he jumps 75 years of ethnic cleansing to "but Hamas is also bad".
    I think a #GenocideinGaza surpasses any excuse.
By the way,go and find reports from NYT and even Haaretz investigating the #hannibaldoctrine applied by #IsraelTerroristState during 7th October and count who killed who.
    Everything else is just #badhasbara

@zeri "[…] insisting one crime is ok because someone else is doing something similar or worse". It's rather the other way around in my case! I do not say, that one crime is okay. What I try to say is: please don't overlook those other crimes by focusing alone on this one. (I do not say, that you did so, but many does, in my perception.) This one crime is a crime and a crime is never good. But let us not close our eyes to all the other crimes to only highlight this.

@zeri Again: I never said that Israels actions where okay, because of what others did, did I? Didn't I already agreed, that Israels attacks may count as warcrimes and may be discussed at court one day? Where do you see me justifying Israels actions by simply pointing out other bullies in the game? Hamas declared openly for decades that they would annihilate Israel if they've been given the chance, yet you point only at Israel, whilst declaring genocidal ideations?

@ojelabii @yonkeltron @streetartutopia yes, yes you did. But do you see how I am concerned that my taxes are used to support one crime making me complicit in my view? We couldn't even put sanctions on a few violent settlers until Orban was out of office. When it comes to Iran my government has sanctions ready to go any time. With Israel we literally sabotage any effort, and as a citizen I bear the moral responsibility, it's democracy. you are not in the clear just because you don't like it.

Comparing Israel to Nazi Germany is absolutely insane.

              Israel got away with it.

@rkd993 @ojelabii @gkrnours @streetartutopia I think that whole "the middle east history is complicated" is a rethorical trap when used to suggest we shouldn't form an opinion about the present because of the past. Someone with a view like "the history of the middle east is just people that don't like each other murdering each other in droves." might be wrong or oversimplifying but they wouldn't be wrong categorically.

@ojelabii @gkrnours @streetartutopia I agree on every point but the last one. People are demanding that Israel gets the same condemnation for the same act which is clearly not happening if you live in the EU. We don't have a trade association agreement with ISIS, we don't deliver weapons to Iran, and we aren't financing the genocide in Sudan. But for Israel somehow we keep doing that stuff to a degree that implies complicity not just looking away.

@zeri At least we're not doing the latter »that openly«, agreed. Coming from Germany myself I must admit though "why" Israel is special there.

Yet Israel is definitely a democracy, ISIS isn't (or wasn't) even a real state and definitely, like Iran, not democratic at all. Maybe that makes a difference as well? That it currently is led by extrem rightwinger people, extreme fundamentalists and (I think/guess) rather corrupt politicians (Netanyahu?) worries me too, yes!

@zeri Therefore I'd wish the state to change its political orientaition (like I do wish the same for the IMHO way too far right leaning politics in current Germany.) Yet I do not wish to deny its right to exist in the first place. (You didn't say so but that demand from Hamas and others is IMHO at the root of this whole debacle.)

@streetartutopia Is that bottom image real? It seems absurdly implausible that it could've been taken at the exact same camera angle, height, and location as the first image given the immense destruction that has occurred around where the camera is sitting at? A reverse image search also only turned up a few X accounts reposting it with no source.

(Note: I'm only questioning the validity of that particular image, not the destruction that has actually occurred in Gaza as a whole)

The Top Image (Before): Captured by Mustafa Thraya, a prominent Palestinian drone journalist who extensively documented Gaza's landscape from the air before he was tragically killed in an airstrike in January 2024.

The Bottom Image (After): Captured from the exact same flight path by photojournalist Mohammad Ismail Shamallkh to document the extent of the structural destruction along the coastline.

@ojelabii @gkrnours @streetartutopia If law isn't applied equally to all offenders it isn't just. And law without justice is tyrany. Just ask yourself what consequences a settler has to fear if they start beating a old woman to death on camera (looks just like Hamas to me) and compare it to the fate of a palestinian attacking an illegal settlement in the same neighborhood. The IDF kills the one and dismantles his entire street while the other goes home and never sees the inside of a court room.

The best thing about your comment - it is not clear to me which you are calling a war and which you are calling "planned industrialized annihilation of people".

The latter fits both. Though I would argue that WW2 was more of a war than the genocide in Gaza, but you sound like someone who would call tanks and fighter jets murdering unarmed civilians a war, no matter how proud that would make Joseph Goebbels.

@ojelabii @rkd993 @gkrnours @streetartutopia yes, yes indeed. Do you refer to the Shoa or the Haavara agreement? The brits had a hand in it too but we, the Germans, definitely did the lion share of making the Middle East what it is today. Thing is I don't think the Palestinians should pay the price for Germanys crimes ... seems a little unfair you know.

@tillbtc @streetartutopia I searched but I'm not able to find anything about a photojournalist under the name of "Mohammad Ismail Shamallkh" (or similar). Do you have an actual source to back that up? If you only got this information from Gemini, consider it pretty useless at best.
