@NatureMC @heidilifeldman I think they'll do a "Gang of Four" letting Trump off the hook due to senility.

Long after we rid ourselves of Trump, his Cabinet, Steve Miller, the Roberts Court, Mike Johnson, etc., we will still have to do the work reconstructing the U.S. as a secular, pluralist constitutional democracy. 2/

@heidilifeldman need a constitutional convention. Lots to fix structurally. Firewalls to build. An expanded Supreme Court would have a hard time worrying about what “the founders” thought when the new constitution is clear and relevant.

@tiotasram @heidilifeldman In Ireland we're laughing. But then we have proportional voting, strict limits on political donations, no gerrymandering and much else the US has yet to discover.

@heidilifeldman As a German, I would like to remind the method of Denazification, practised by the Allies after 1945: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denazification

I could imagine that the USA need something similiar.
But please don't repeat the mistakes of history when the Americans and their allies too often whitewashed a whole bunch of former Nazis in leadership positions because it was so convenient, or because they preferred corruption and collaboration.

I still think we need to get rid of both "parties". Many have forgot that dems are simply better at hidding their shit.

Standing Rock, Occupy Wall Street ... oh, and all the tertists attavking homeless people for simply existing in (1st Amendment) public spaces.

It is hard to maintain an appetite for political reconstruction. People want to forget awful times and awful conduct and paper over problems and conflicts. But we can’t ever have secular, pluralist constitutional democracy in the U.S. if we don’t do the work of disqualifying those who have destroyed it from government. 6/6

We need to invest a lot more in mental health screening for sociopaths and psychopaths. Reprogramming for fascists, racists, and maybe separation for the incorrigible. Take seriously the need to protect ourselves from them.

@heidilifeldman Conservative and privately funded Hillsdale College invited Erika Kirk to deliver the commencement address this May (2026.)

From college President Larry P. Arnn:

“Charlie Kirk became a national and international sensation, and he built something amazing. At his memorial service were the great, the near-great, and tens of millions watching. But that isn’t why we loved him. We loved him because he was, at heart, a student who worked hard to get it right. Erika Kirk, brave and widowed, intends to carry on. And we will help her.”

We are going to need Spruckammer courts.

I would honestly go as far as holding hearings and censuring and shaming the likes of Garland and Biden for dereliction of duty.

@villares @heidilifeldman Many of us will not survive. Ultimately though facism will fail as it always does.

@NatureMC @heidilifeldman I'm not German, but that was my first thought.

@heidilifeldman Please do better job at political reconstruction than us over here in Germany. The common view of Germany being a role model for how to do this is misleading at best.
When West Germany was emerging in 1949, not enough Nazis were removed from all parts of government. There were numerous cases of Nazis in high ranks. Heck, even the BND, the federal intelligence agency, was founded by Hitlers „super spy“ Reinhard Gehlen and employed lots of former SS henchmen.
