The common view of Germany being a role model for how to do this is misleading at best.
When West Germany was emerging in 1949, not enough Nazis were removed from all parts of government. There were numerous cases of Nazis in high ranks. Heck, even the BND, the federal intelligence agency, was founded by Hitlers „super spy“ Reinhard Gehlen and employed lots of former SS henchmen.
