    Hey hams, how many of us actually monitor 146.520? And how often?

    I always do in my car or while doing remote ops. Another way to put that is that I only do in my car or while doing remote ops.

    @W6KME I gave up.

    I was driving to the area hamfest back in 2019 and spotted a car with a "I'm listening on 146.52" sticker on the bumper. I hailed, nothing. I pulled up alongside, tried to get their attention and failed. Pulled out in front of them so they could see my obvious call plates and tried hailing again. Nada.

    There have been at least half a dozen vehicles over the years squawking on APRS they're on .52 as they drive by (I live near the junction of two interstates) and I could never raise them.

      @W6KME
      Whenever my home VHF/UHF radio is on, one receiver is on 146.52.

        @W6KME Always listening in the car here. Don't have a good setup at home to listen though.

          @W6KME I monitor 146.58 when I'm out driving and sometimes at home. That's our local central Oregon simplex frequency and the PNW SOTA frequency. Not much traffic weekdays though.

          @tsherrygeo 580 is common for SOTA down here too. Once I'm outside my local repeater zone, I have 520 on one channel, 580 on the other in the car.

          I've been calling while travelling lately on 520, and have yet to ever get a comeback. I do occasionally get some madman waving wildly at me from another car who turns out to be a ham though.

            @W6KME That would make for a good #FFWN question, too, I think. Maybe it has been asked there before? @bud_t

              @W6KME I used to monitor a lot, especially to catch SOTA oos, but haven't lately. I really should do that again.

                @W6KME I often keep a radio tuned there but it’s just a cheap HT sitting on my desk so I can’t be sure if the frequency is actually dead or if my radio just doesn’t pick up the signals

                  @kr1st @W6KME I don't think we've asked that before for #FFWN. Let's make it this week's question!

                      @bud_t @kr1st I like it!

                      We all probably complain when we don't get comebacks on any band, but I wonder if we are also doing enough to respond ourselves when others are looking for a contact. I'm not sure I'm doing enough, certainly.

                        @W6KME @kr1st I try to remember to monitor 146.52 at home, and always have it on when hiking. But I should monitor it more, like when mobile.
