@SimonCHulse its awesome that they did this and that they have opened the design up. But its odd that there's no obvious way to buy it. You can't 3D print a bell so its not like we can all go do it ourselves. Why go through all the other hoopla without making the thing?

@Niall yeah, I googled how to buy it outright and couldn’t find an option either. I want to buy it from them to encourage them to do more R&D in this field.

@SimonCHulse Clever concept. Shared paths and noise cancelling headphones is an awkward mix. I wonder how well it works?

Probably not half as well as separated paths @SimonCHulse

@joncounts if you watch the video they tested it in London by giving it to gig workers on bikes doing deliveries and it does apparently work.

It’s certainly a problem I’ve experienced a bunch of times since shared paths started becoming more common in my area.

@RedRobyn @joncounts no, but shared paths are going to get built much more often than routes with double grade separation for cars/cyclists/walkers each on their own level.

And I'm very much afraid they are going to be created rather than built.
By simply legislating for riding on existing footpaths and thus abdicating responsibility for any other cycling safety projects

@RedRobyn @SimonCHulse @joncounts there are actually a lot of "multi-use paths" in Waterloo (and Kitchener) in Ontario. Usually they are indeed wider than the preexisting sidewalks (footpaths) at least. And they have different markings from a sidewalk. Still not as good as dedicated infrastructure but better than a sharrow.

@va2lam @RedRobyn @joncounts our new Te Ara Tupua cycleway in Wellington has pedestrian and cyclist lanes with raised paint markers that you can feel when biking if you roll over them.

@RedRobyn @va2lam @joncounts it’s amazing- we had a team of Dutch consultants work on it because it’s both of the things they’re good at—controlling water AND cycling.
