My son is 11,autistic, and obsessed with Minecraft. I manage a team of 4 Database Engineers. At some point I started to talk to them like how the parenting courses told me to communicate with my son and the team morale and overall performance has shot up so much we got an award
@fesshole
Your parenting course is good.

@argv_minus_one @StarkRG @jonm funny enough, today I wouldn't flee from Germany to England, but I'm genuinely considering emigrating to Scotland.

@argv_minus_one @StarkRG @jonm nothing special really. It's just that fascists have taken over Germany and it's no longer a matter of "if" but "when" people like me will be put in KZs again.
Never in all my travels across europe have I encountered nicer and kinder people than in Scotland (by a very great margin). So I was hoping that I could find a small village somewhere in the outback where I would be left alone and in peace. -

Any idea what went wrong at the workplace? In theory, updating one library shouldn't be hardβ¦

Although to be fair, Minecraft isn't exactly mission-critical. Nobody's going to die or lose a million bucks if it crashes. One kid will be temporarily annoyed, and that's it.
-
@fiend_unpleasant @fesshole That's actually a really unkind thing to say.
@crazyeddie @fiend_unpleasant @fesshole i'm autistic and i must respectfully disagree

@argv_minus_one @murodegrizeco Tell that to a community of hundreds of kids for whom the Minecraft server is the center of their social life

@argv_minus_one @murodegrizeco The bad guys were already on the server. Minecraft was, where log4j was first discovered.

@fesshole Probably also responsible for at least one of those engineers getting an adult-autism diagnosis and finally receiving care.

@murodegrizeco @argv_minus_one Container mess is especially strange thing, as a lot of those containers are essentially 3rd party "managed". So it might take a while before 3rd parties fix anything on the container images.

@walsonde @StarkRG @jonm this test is for you then: https://german.millermanschool.com/

Greetings from a fellow German autistic."I took the German or Autistic diagnostic. Result: Both. The Wittgenstein Result. I don't know whether to be proud or concerned."
"The category isn't German or autistic β it's people for whom the gap between how things are and how they ought to be is not an abstraction but a constant, low-grade irritation."
Hahaβa mate & I were recently moaning that nothing works as it should, & how constantly irritating that was.

οΈ @thefathippy @walsonde @StarkRG @jonm that *is* a very German thing to complain about though!

@argv_minus_one @jonm Sure, it's really more about being mindful and considerate about the differences in the way people operate. Employers, especially the mega-corporate kind, seem to want to treat employees like interchangeable cogs, forcing all of them to operate identically and eliminating any that wear out too quickly. While my advice makes things nicer for everyone, it's more of a necessity for autistic employees lest they burn out too quickly.

Scotland is great. People are mostly lovely, infrastructure is great and there are lots of things to do. And the light is incredible.

@fesshole Yup. Attending those parenting seminars. Best thing I've done for personal growth. Taught me how to do de-escalation much better.
@JustinMac84 @fesshole
How did your deescalation skills improve?
