@llorenzin This has solidified something I've been thinking about for ages. The industry has absolutely weaponized our anxiety and has been using it to get things they absolutely would never get from a more stable and chill workforce.
The enraging bit is that if we *were* chill and not anxiety driven the extra danger to us would be... basically nothing. Because we're worried about ghosts and empty threats that have no substance and disappear in the light of day.
@wordshaper the problem is that getting fired due to management obsession with AI is absolutely not an empty threat, and the job market right now is worse (from my perspective) than even the dotcom crash in the early 2000s. The anxiety is totally justified.

The funny part is that the machine *doesn't* do what they do, nor is it cheaper, but the propaganda of "AI" companies is so ubiquitous that even people in a position to know better talk like the disinformation is facts.
LLMs-as-coding-machines will collapse long before the long-tail impact of the short-term bullshit arrives, if only because we're already seeing the broken services and software that vibecoding produces.
The real problem is COVID brain damage; that's harder to fix.
@johnzajac I 100% agree with you on every point here, and especially the last one. It's absolutely terrifying what we're doing to ourselves as a species.

I'm on mesh core too and people should also look at stuff like Briar cause there are a lot more phones out there than lora radios.

@llorenzin - I’m a Sophomore in CS, and the “Junior developer hiring is over” is saddening. The amount of effort I need to just get up to bat let alone on first base is deflating. It’s not enough to show basic competence, communication, and a capacity to learn; these days you need to have your own end-to-end software platform up and 100+ leetcode questions memorized. The system is all messed up, and the worst part is this is all unforced errors. It doesn’t have to be like this.

@llorenzin @wordshaper The anxiety started long before "AI"; management is always obsessing about something and developers are always afraid they're going to get fired which makes it easy for management to leverage that anxiety so they do things against their own best interest. At some point we have to say enough is enough but somehow it's always never now or this.
A union and/or professional society would help but...
