    Neil: There's a wealth of amazing Free software out there! I use loads of it.

    Them: What do you use to write documents?

    Me: I use vim. I write in Markdown, then convert it. (typst + pandoc)

    Them: What about presentations?

    Me: I use vim. I write in Markdown, then convert it. (revealjs)

    Them: Your website? Blog?

    Me: I use vim. I write in Markdown, then convert it. (mkdocs / bssg)

    Them: So what about keeping notes?

    Me: Oddly enough, I use vim. I write in Markdown... (vimwiki)

    @neil that's a lot of ways to say you can't exit vim. 🙂

        @ppulfer @ghouston @neil

        Please don't make a fuss about it, we once suggested #Vim to a friend in #RL and their reply was like 'Huh, ain't that a dishwashing liquid ?'

        We've been waiting for almost a decade to make this quip

                @ppulfer @neil you probably have to reboot the computer or something. Emacs is simple, C-x C-c, followed by 'y' if confirm-kill-emacs is set.

                @ghouston @neil, fun fact: I also once hard rebooted a homelab server as I did not know how to exit VIM and had no phone to search about it.

                    @imclaren

                    I find writing presentations in Markdown, with CSS for styling, much easier than faffing with a visual editor, but then I haven't used a visual presentation editor in years and so might be out of touch.

                      @neil i usually write the markdown then ask an llm to create powerpoint using a provided template or from scratch. it’s corporate world collaboration lock in

                        Hi,
                        Agreed, text-only is king.
                        Remark : since my first jumps to LINUX, (around 1996 ?), I have been using Joe's own editor.

                                      @neil While I fully support the use of Freeware and Open Source tools, this seems a lot like how people worked before WYSIWYG applications came on the market; e.g Word Perfect vs. Word

                                          @grumpydad @neil Yes, with Emacs you get rid of the bloat of markdown and only use one software, Emacs and its built-in org (and all the other built-in things).

                                          @liebach @neil As has been said before, emacs is a wonderful OS. Could use a decent editor though...
