@jarjan I think that technically falls under trade 😉 although I’m not sure what standards you’re speaking about. Do you have any further info/sources?

You're quite right I think. That does indeed fall under 'trade'. But it also shows how trade can (negatively I think in this case) affect EU policy?

@karlos @hpod16 @grob I'm Mastodon's resident loudmouth demanding #EUreform, but as long as member states are a thing (which, you know... I'd not personally miss them, but realistically in our lifetime they will be) there will always be a veto on constitutional matters like accession and treaty change, that's the only area in which it makes sense to keep it

@hpod16 hope is not a valid concept in politics.

It’s not only Hungary. It’s countries that like to take the benefits but refuse to stand up for the common values.

@ewos1986 @hpod16 That would be all of them. They just take turns/are shameless to different degrees. Nobody who demands to "get rid" of Hungary seems to have an answer to any follow-up questions:

                      How?

Why don't you ask your government why it's not calling to deblock the Art. 7 vote in the Council(s) (no, the first one doesn't require unanimity)?

On which legal basis are we stripping millions of Hungarians like Áron Varsányi of their citizenship?

Bonus German Q: where were you in 2018?

But I would love a deep dive in mobility regulations. From digital to physical mobility, ten-t and the role the eu can play in advancing sustainable transport modes. Both within and between the countries of the eu.

the fiscal union of government tax and spending that did not accompany the monetary union of the euro

Is a fiscal union optimal for a monetary union?

Downloadable (with restrictions)! When is a fiscal union appropriate for a monetary union? In a monetary union without fiscal externalities, when local fiscal authorities have an informational advantage over a central fiscal authority in terms of their knowledge of countries’ preferences for government spending, a decentralized fiscal regime dominates a centralized one. Our novel result is that in the presence of fiscal externalities across countries, however, a decentralized fiscal regime is optimal for small monetary unions, whereas a centralized fiscal regime is optimal for large ones. These results shed new light on the debate on fiscal integration within the EU and its enlargement.

@ikecht oh I frigging live for transport policy! Can’t believe I forgot about that! 💜

There’s some cool stuff there that’s relevant to everyone, like passenger rights regulations, or multimodal digital mobility services.
Then there’s aspects of the green transition, investing more and cross border rail, but also sustainable aviation fuels… lots to unpack. Thanks for the suggestion.

@Tamtam I'd love to dig into this topic more, thanks!
Like, did you know all the EU lobbyists have to be registered here? https://transparency-register.europa.eu/index_en

But there's more to it than that.
I think the EU is pretty transparent, but at the same time sometimes it's difficult to know where to look for the information you want. I'd love to promote more the ways in which people can observe what happens in the EU.
