step one in any possible reboot of the free software movement is always gonna be to refuse corporate sponsorship .
-
@hipsterelectron@circumstances.run @fiore@brain.worm.pink the difference between a corporation that does an atrocity and the corporation that does not do an atrocity is not some moral betterness by the board of directors. Sure some small time businesses may genuinely be driven by a guy with a desire to do good. But that chafes and gnashes against the demanded logic of capitalism to seek profit above all else or be annahilated. Like fiore said those which do genocide are those which have a profit incentive to do so. And those who do not follow profit incentive like its their religion will eventually be fed on by vultures picking on their stagnating corpse.

@fiore the problem with the " volunteers in their spare time" narrative kinda is that either the project gets abandoned because the developers are juggling a 60h/wk job, family, friends, and three to five free software project, or that the project gets abandoned because the developer who wanted to focus on the project full-time went homeless because they couldnt get the funding .
its the same problem as with any art, and even research . it feels@reia@linfan.moe ermm those all seem like things a corpo would be worried about .. /j(id love to respond more seriously but im late to a dentist appointment rn i gtg weehhh)

@fiore@brain.worm.pink @hipsterelectron@circumstances.run @LGUG2Z@hachyderm.io I'll add that by using the legal system specifically centred around treating corporations as individuals, you are scoring an own goal and playing by rules with disadvantage the goals of a free software movement.

@hipsterelectron@circumstances.run @nagirin@sk.myxoz.net @LGUG2Z@hachyderm.io the fsf has failed to provide what we are seeking , and the fsf has produced some pretty darn good licenses . the reason this all went to shit is that licensing is not the way to move forward , it is not a weapon
