@xyhhx I REALLY wish https://dontcallthepolice.com/ had resources that were not just by large US city , but there might be something there depending on their location

@xyhhx I’m taking a 2-day in-person training on this next month; if they have any decent materials I’ll report back/share.

@xyhhx from personal experience (being the suicidal person), if it is just extreme, acute ideation/plan-making and not "literally trying to kill oneself at that exact moment", the main benefit of going to an ER seems to be being forced to wait it out in a very boring environment, ideally sans phone, for several hours. This is a huge "your mileage may vary" but simply being in the same space/watching to make sure they don't do anything may be enough and is at least better than nothing.

@xyhhx Not sure if you’re already familiar but Mutual Aid Social Therapy? They have a presence on IG which links to a library of zines related to suicide intervention, harm reduction, safety planning, & more. All anti-carceral ♡

@xyhhx realized I should've replied to @moss's post—the website linked doesn't mention those services so is a bit out of date.

Also the Gerstein is great, but there are limited beds and you need a referral: https://gersteincentre.org/our-crisis-services/crisis-beds/

You stay there for a few days, you can come and go as you please except IIRC you are supposed to come back at meal times, there is privacy, there are people to talk to/resources if you want but it's not mandatory. At least that's how it worked many years ago when I stayed there. It is more like "staying at someone else's house for a weekend but you don't have to actually socialize" than an institution.

@xyhhx this is US based; however it is a coordinated effort from several organizations I & former colleagues worked alongside. Hoping it helps

@xyhhx sometimes I wonder about similar kinds of training. In this context I'm a little confused about how you're distinguishing direct and crisis intervention?
