Just got someone in one of the biggest subreddits I'm in to try Teamtalk. Good news!Bad news, I'm not so sure how to use it, myself. I didn't tell them that though.So how do you create a server? I really don't know if it's so comparable to Discord.

@maj @JustinDerrick Nowadays these verification apps make you move your face around, open and close your mouth, etc. on camera to prevent using a still photo. @ielenia I use weechat and weechat-android (which connects to a weechat relay running on a VPS over SSH), and also hexchat (which I don't recommend because it's unmaintained and stuck on GTK2 and has a lot of problems, but I haven't found an adequate replacement yet (halloy lacks scripting and I haven't been able to compile it))

Perhaps Pixelfed and Loops should migrate from Discord to Discourse

@Gargron Not happy about that Patreon statement though .From my PoV I am paying Patreons share. I roughly know what is deducted and select my tier accordingly. And for me it is worth the money. I am backing 25+ projects with Mastodon receiving one of the larger backings (since April 2017, my 10-year-anniversary is around the corner). I have no chance to track my patronages if those are distributed over dozens of services.

I wish Matrix/Element had the kind of account portability Mastodon has— "social graph portability", let me change addresses while moving my room memberships/spaces on other people's friend lists.I have never taken advantage of this feature on Mastodon, since on Mastodon I would want to take my post history with me, which you can't. But Matrix doesn't have the same notion of "post history", and also it constantly deletes your old chat histories claiming key errors so who cares

Discord isn't close to being aligned with my principles, so on one hand this is expected/whatever. On the other, I've sort of accepted that Discord servers are to be treated as open public spaces and nothing you say is really private (this true whether you're on matrix or discord). And a lot of servers on there do provide a community for people, and unlike a lot of other services Discord is pretty top tier imho. @matrix please make Matrix better lolhttps://www.theverge.com/tech/875309/discord-age-verification-global-roll-out
