English speakers of the fedi.@eltonfc Interesting, I think I always thought of it as imperative, but I guess in other languages it would typically be localized to be the infinitive? As an English speaker the idea of writing something like "I want to save the file" on a UI sounds unnatural to me; as though you're just giving the computer information and it's going to make its own decision.

English speakers of the fedi.@eltonfc I'm not a linguist but I'm pretty sure in English the infinitive form of save is literally "to save", so the idea that just "save" could be infinitive is confusing to me. And writing "to save" on a button seems like it wouldn't make any sense? I guess I don't really understand the question.

LLM access is relatively cheap now because the LLM vendors are discounting their price at a massive loss, subsidized by VC, in order to get you addicted and to drive as much skilled human labor as possible out of the workforce permanently.@Doomed_Daniel Generally they aren't making a loss on inference currently, they're just spending so much more on training new models that they have a loss overall. But also some of the competition is from open source models, and the cost of inference for those is just the cost of compute, which goes down over time.

There seem to be too many labs making models of similar quality, and often it's effortless to switch between them.
