Hello all:

For the forseeable future I shall be tooting on another server (techhub.social - another Cdn Server with 1000 char limit) with the same user name.

Not going into the details.

I have no tech or people issues with mstdn.ca and the service has always been very good.

For now I am going to leave all the toots I sent as is on this server.
If anyone wishes to copy anything then please do so soon.
I am not going to do a migration - people are free to follow me at the oter server if they like and they will be welcome.

I shall continue to toot about charter and privacy issues as long as I am able.

Remember it's "True North Strong And Free" not 'trust nobody suspect all folks".

It's going to be a long time until the next federal election - so stay strong people - do not give into despair - we can do this - Canada forward.

Currently it should be possible to turn off location data on your phone or not use any app that uses location data.

BillC22 and a data breach is all it would take for your privacy to be threatened since the location data would be gathered by the telcom and there is nothing you could set on your phone to stop the collection.

Scary stuff folks.

Earlier today I searched through all of the audio segments I could find at CBC "As It Happens" and "The Current" radio shows and I could not find anything about BillC22.

There was a small number of web page posts at cbc.ca/news about the bill.

IMO the public was not well informed about Bill C22.

Maybe that is what the gov wanted?

I do not regularily check the parliment web pages for new legislation.

I found out accidently via an odd post on Mastodon that managed to get enough boots to make it into the general feed.

I believe C22 should be delayed until more people have time to consider the consequences.
IMO if more people know what was in the bill that there would be more outrage.

I think the lack of proper notice is grounds to take more time, especially in the Senate (if it gets there).

If C22 passes as is then we might never fully recover all of the Charter rights and freedoms we had in 2025.

I feel betrayed by the PMMC government.
