@Em0nM4stodon Done, thanks! Added a point that truly bad actors can just encrypt locally with PGP. Encryption backdoors only harm the privacy of ordinary people relying on the off-the-shelf encryption tools.

@landelare @wiredfire @really_idk @OpenMediaOrg @mollyim I understand the sentiment, I was just trying to solve the practical problem. I have argued with them for years about the number thing, but there didn't used to be any workaround at all. Now there is so while I want them to finish the job, I at least can show people how to set up and still preserve their privacy.

#BillC22 #KillBillC22 #StopBillC22 #CdnPoliFor the forseeable future I shall be tooting on topics related to the Charter and privacy which includes #BillC22 and #AgeGate.IMO Bill C22 is the greatest threat to our privacy and Charter rights that I have seen since the Cons introduced Bill C30 in 2012 (which was withdrawn after much protest). The spooks (Cdn spies and thier contractors) wish to create a database containing up to one year's worth of your meta data - internet search history and mobile phone contacts with location data, something that could be used to track you.On the fediverse I recommend following these accounts, each of whom has been stong proponents of privacy since before Bill C30 (14 years ago).@mgeist a well noted privacy lawyer who has been providing invaluable privacy information for decades.@OpenMediaOrg an organization that has been campaigning for privacy and internet rights for Canadians for a great many years.

#KillBillC22 #StopBillC22 #CdnPoliThis video shows what could happen if #BillC22 is passed and people get access to the data.https://youtube.com/watch?v=Y07j3hXAI-g&si=yKT-JuV3H784g5SXCurrently it should be possible to turn off location data on your phone or not use any app that uses location data.BillC22 and a data breach is all it would take for your privacy to be threatened since the location data would be gathered by the telcom and there is nothing you could set on your phone to stop the collection.Scary stuff folks.

#KillBillC22 #StopBillC22 #BillC22 #CdnPoliEarlier today I searched through all of the audio segments I could find at CBC "As It Happens" and "The Current" radio shows and I could not find anything about BillC22.There was a small number of web page posts at cbc.ca/news about the bill.IMO the public was not well informed about Bill C22.Maybe that is what the gov wanted?I do not regularily check the parliment web pages for new legislation.I found out accidently via an odd post on Mastodon that managed to get enough boots to make it into the general feed.I believe C22 should be delayed until more people have time to consider the consequences.IMO if more people know what was in the bill that there would be more outrage.I think the lack of proper notice is grounds to take more time, especially in the Senate (if it gets there). If C22 passes as is then we might never fully recover all of the Charter rights and freedoms we had in 2025.I feel betrayed by the PMMC government.

Bill C-22 would force every Canadian internet provider, messaging app, and cloud service to build surveillance backdoors & store a year of your private data. Foreign state hackers exploited similar legislation in the US — compromising up to a million people. Tell your MP: https://openmedia.org/StopC22-mast #BillC22 #cdnpoli @OpenMediaOrg

@GalacticGoddess When we in Canada are horrified by some things south of the border......maybe we should avoid building the systems that empower those things?Bill C-22 is a huge leap towards an authoritarian, repressive government! If we're going to define ourselves as "not the USA" we have to act differently too.#CDNPoli #Canada #Politics #C22 #BillC22

BREAKING: 25+ of Canada's leading rights orgs, privacy scholars, and legal experts just delivered a joint letter to Parliament. The ask? Kill #BillC22.The reason? It would be "the most expansive invasion of Canadian privacy rights in modern history." 🧵https://openmedia.org/press/item/civil-society-to-parliament-kill-bill-c-22#cdnpoli 1/
