Am I crazy or does the UX of mastodon kind of suck in some places?

I've seen "Share on Mastodon" buttons on websites and are greeted with a prompt saying "what's your mastodon instance so you can actually post". I get that mastodon is federated... but there has to be a better UX for this. It's things that this that absolutely turn off normies who just want to share stuff to their friends.

I have absolutely no proposal for how to improve this. I'm just complaining

  • πŸ“† Daily Prompt [2026-03-06]: If software bugs were real insects, which one would be the most terrifying?
    sudorandom@infosec.exchangeS sudorandom@infosec.exchange

I mean, they were. And I literally just saw someone troubleshooting a laptop, opened it up and saw cockroaches so real bugs are breaking software even today. So my answer is that.

  • πŸ“† Daily Prompt [2026-02-28]: If you had to maintain code written by your past self from 5 years ago, would you hug them or fight them?
    sudorandom@infosec.exchangeS sudorandom@infosec.exchange

Eh, somewhere in between. I've learned a lot of empathy when reading other people's code and I carry that on when looking at code from myself in the past. I feel like empathizing with the context and people who wrote code in the past helps better understand it and leads to easier debugging.
