Considering increasing pushes for more of a corporate and/or police surveillance state in the name of things like protecting the children or giving police access to more data, I may go full digital hermit.
Maybe just a GrapheneOS phone with nothing but Proton Mail and Signal on it, through a VPN.
One of these days I'm going to actually get around to optimizing my social feeds, whether that's using @surf or just regular Bluesky feeds and Mastodon lists. Not today. But someday. Hopefully.

I just saw someone wearing a "GO AHEAD Call HR" (with that capitalization) hoodie and I'm really struggling to think of what that could mean other than loudly declaring that you are unsafe to work with.
The version of evangelicalism I grew up with had the VeggieTales Nebuchadnezzar statue episode, and also regular warnings that in the modern world idolatry usually is a lot more subtle than that.

Back in my day as an 8 year old, getting to watch a movie like Mortal Kombat without parents around would have been a highlight of our year.
There was a group of 3 boys, maybe 10 years, without any parental supervision, in the row in front of me. They occasionally made some noise for a cool fatality, but often seemed just as interested in their phones.
Kids these days can't even properly appreciate gratuitous violence.

Just heard that it should be obvious that an AI system is not intelligent and therefore you need to prompt it well and verify results. The latter part is absolutely true.
But I really don't think it's obvious to normal people that the thing we call Artificial Intelligence is not intelligent.
This continues to be my number one gripe. The problem isn't the technology of language models and certainly not of all machine learning, which has real substantial value. The problem remains almost entirely the hype overselling it as way more than it is to further advance Big Tech social control.
I honestly think most of the hype would deflate in a hurry if we consistently said machine learning or LLM or whatever term is more meaningful, instead of conjuring up images of sci-fi entities taking over the world.
The Google Gemini #VSCode extension is painfully bad, like stalls for half an hour before throwing an error level of bad.

It's not even that expensive or time-consuming to maintain a basic small business website. It's going to be worth it. I promise.
Always a good sign when you show up to a local charity's donor appreciation brunch and both your MPP and your once / hopefully future again MP are there, just as citizens who actually care about their community.
I do think banning schools or certain apps in schools makes far more sense than requiring everybody to provide ID to access any part of the Internet (aka age verification).

I might stop bothering with my Pixelfed account. I don't really see the value proposition of it for me, as I never really saw the value of Instagram even when I was willing to use Facebook products. It's a slightly nicer UI for pictures than following the same accounts from Mastodon, but not much, and I am rarely posting photos myself. I thought it was a cool open source project I wanted to monitor but it still feels like it has never quite been finished, without much noticeable improvement in the time I've had it.
