@ello I think most kids do. I was in a particularly unique situation. I was being taught how to use email, and I put my real birth date on the Hotmail signup form. When I did that, it asked my parents to submit approval that they give permission for their daughter to have an email account. My technology teacher told my parents that if I set my birth date to one of a 13-year-old, they would not have to submit any documentation, so my parents gave my teacher permission to help me fake my birth date on the form. From then on, I was like, "Oh, it's that easy to lie on a form. No problem, rinse and repeat."

@ello I was all over the Internet when I was 12. I got permission from my parents to say that I was 13 on any site that asked, because I was mature for my age. It wasn't even that they didn't know what I was doing.

@fireborn I was thinking about that part too. We've gotten so used to the idea of being connected to the web that being offline isn't quite the concept it used to be.

@fireborn That's just it. I'm so often on mobile these days that I hesitate to opt into an app that's only available when on a computer. I never thought I'd feel that way after all my days on Aim and MSN, but even they were available on mobile via multimessenger apps.

@simon I have learned that accounts actually expire if you don't use them enough, so I had to create my account. That said, the fact that no email address is working is very odd indeed.

Just got off the phone with my boyfriend who told me he spent most of the day sleeping. Now I don't feel so bad because I've been doing the same thing today lol.

I've spent nine months working with a stenomask, and I still don't get how some people talk into that thing day after day. Maybe I'm destined for open mic voice writing after all.

One of the things about spending most of your life in a cult is you don't realize how shitty some humans can be. The more visible I become online, the more I see how little some show respect for others. It has been quite the awakening, to be sure. I mean, in theory, I know that there are bad people in this world, but spending my life in isolation shielded me from fully experiencing how people treat each other when they don't care about someone or stop caring about someone. This is not at all a reflection on Mastodon and the positive culture we have fostered on this platform. This is simply my brain catching up to reality. Don't mind me.

I'm reading the bible again, but it's not what you think. JW's have a read the bible schedule which takes them through their bible in a year. But that's their bible, translated with manuscripts which deviate from the manuscripts used for NIV and other popular bibles. I'm using the English Standard version because it's a great study bible and free to read in the You Version app. In parallel, I have the legacy standard bible, which uses Yaweh where the Tetragrammaton appears. ESV, NIV, and other translations use LORD in all capital letters, which can lead novice readers to miss the use of the Tetragrammaton in context during a reading session. After using the JW bible for many years, I can generally tell when this is occurring, but LSB helps me be sure without me feeling like I need to consult the NWT. ESV feels like a smooth read at 1.75 reading speed. I'm trying to finish the bible in 90 days or less, which is a reasonable goal for me as an avid reader.

It looks like not everyone will need to verify their age to access age restricted content starting in March.
