Maybe I'm just sadder than I should be about this (every night I get my forecasts, including AQI reports, from this service), but it also seems short sighted.
Climate collapse is causing more and more extreme weather events that require emergency alerts. The Internet (and their continued reliance on X) becomes a single-point-of-failure for disseminating timely national weather forecasts and weather emergency alerts. This is problematic for all kinds of reasons.
ECCC's site doesn't provide any other information about it but I'm assuming this is part of Carney's broad cuts to public services and infrastructure in Canada. Sad.
